Authorities in Utah are hoping a Barbie doll could help them solve the 1995 murder of a six-year-old little girl.

The Sweetheart Barbie doll was put on the grave shortly after the brutal rape and murder of six year Rosie Tapia. Her body was found several hours later in a canal off the Jordan River.

Rosie’s mum Lewine initially thought the doll was part of the other items well-wishers left for Rosie, however police now believe it could have a deeper meaning. I’m just happy that we’re getting a lot done on her case and people are willing to help.

Utah Cold Case Coalition detectives’ enquiries include two possible persons of interest known to have a fixation with the Mattel dolls, reported Fox13.

West Jordan Police are planning on using a cutting-edge DNA extraction procedure to try and extract skin cells from the plastic doll.

DNA tests on the plastic doll are set to begin within the next month

I hope it pans and Mom finds some measure of peace.
