“I was devastated,” Ledbetter said. “I was even dating a guy, and he stopped dating me at that point.”

The mom of three said she was so embarrassed she only went to work, the grocery and back home. She tried covering her messed up brows with makeup. That didn’t work. She went to another woman who told her she could “camouflage” her brows, but after six weeks they appeared to be getting worse.

“It was pretty painful,” Ledbetter said. “I tried to have a good attitude, but it burned a lot. It kind of felt bruised.”

Someone eventually referred her to Kara Gutierrez, a licensed and insured tattoo artist who owns Spot On Beauty in Lee’s Summit, Kansas.

“It took everything in me to hold back tears because this is the worst I’ve ever seen,” Gutierrez said.

Tattoos, microblading, waxing or anything else you are getting done to your face should be something you pay good money for, research and extensively get referrals about. You don't be a cheap ass and get a stupid discount coupon and expect to look like a runway model.
As a skincare specialist I see people buying products all the time that are not beneficial for their skin type or are too harsh for their skin, but at least they can be thrown away. This is your FACE! You can't be looking for cheap shit. Says a lot about her self-value system.

The articles states "...her daughters bought her a Groupon to have them microbladed..." Imagine how awful they must feel for putting Mom through this.

She could have checked the chick out before though, or not used it. My friend was going to be out of town and her groupon for some chinese restaurant was gonna expire so she gave it to me....i saw the crappy yelp reviews, told her thanks but never used it. Cheap is cheap.

I agree! I also think big time ignorance was involved, i.e. she didn't consider the potential consequences.

She worries more and more women will end up in situations like Ledbetter’s because microblading isn’t regulated in the state of Missouri. The practice is considered “semi-permanent” under the law.

“Nobody’s governing this,” Gutierrez said. “No one is saying, 'This is the right way. This is the wrong way.'”

The state’s Office of Tattooing, Body Piercing & Branding has a disclaimer on its website about microblading that explains that “although the Office recognizes the potential for public safety issues, the Office has not been given specific statutory authority to regulate this practice.”

Sounds like the state needs to reclassify microblading as "permanent."

I agree completely with @AngryLittleMexican . It is a tattoo on your face, FFS. You have to check and double check references, see their work, etc. Goofy coupon from daughters or not, she was nuts to go ahead with it.

When my friend with alopecia lost her eyebrows, we gave her tattooed brows for her birthday, from the best tattoo artist in Seattle. They still look great today. You get what you pay for.
