Harrisburg police attempted a traffic stop, near North 18th and Regina Streets, Friday evening, but the vehicle managed to flee the scene.

According to investigators, an object was thrown from the vehicle, in the area of North 17th and Regina Streets.
The officer stopped and secured that item, then discovered it contained a suspected opioid substance.

After being in contact with the substance, the officer began having symptoms of possible opioid exposure.
The officer called for assistance, received a dose of Narcan, was taken to the hospital, treated, then released.

The vector of transmission is not being reported for the accidental exposure, or the form and type of substance that was found which caused the officer to suffer exposure.
