A North Myrtle Beach woman is accused of killing two newborns and disposing of their bodies in the trash, according to warrants.

According to the warrants from the North Myrtle Beach Police Department, Alyssa Anne Dayvault allegedly disposed of a male newborn's body "on or about December 2-3, 2018.

"The defendant was admitted to Grand Strand Regional Hospital on 12/5/2018 for complaints of heavy vaginal bleeding and during treatment she 'delivered' a placenta and umbilical cord consistent with a full term pregnancy, but no child was 'delivered.' Police were contacted and conducted a recorded post-Miranda interview, during which the defendant admitted that she birthed a newborn male child at her residence in North Myrtle Beach," state the warrants. "The defendant stated that the child was born alive and took multiple gasping breaths after having been born. The defendant further stated that she failed to secure medical treatment and did not personally take action to attempt to preserve/save the infant's life. The defendant then disposed of the child's body in a waste receptacle at her residence in NMB without seeking help or notifying authorities."

She is also accused of disposing of a female newborn's body "on or about November 4-23, 2017" according to warrants. "Police recorded a post-Miranda interview pursuant to a separate investigation, during which the defendant admitted that she birthed a newborn female child at her residence in North Myrtle Beach."

"The defendant then disposed of the child's body in a public waste receptacle at her apartment in NMB without seeking help or notifying authorities," the warrants also say. "During the course of the investigation police obtained medical records which indicated that on 11/4/2017 the defendant was in her 3rd trimester of a pregnancy and that the fetus had a healthy heart tone."

Dayvault is charged with murder/homicide by child abuse and graves/destruction, desecration or removal of human remains.

A South Carolina-based makeup artist is facing life in prison after she allegedly covered up two pregnancies over the course of 13 months and disposed of the babies in dumpsters where they died shortly after birth.

Alyssa Anne Dayvault, 30, has been charged with two counts of homicide by child abuse and two counts of destruction, desecration or removal of human remains for the horrific crimes she allegedly committed earlier this month and in November 2017.

During the course of the investigation police obtained medical records which indicated that on 11/4/2017 the defendant was in her third trimester of a pregnancy and that the fetus had a healthy heart tone.'

While it's unclear whether Dayvault is married, she has frequently posted photos of her two young daughters on social media.

A woman accused of dumping her newborn babies in the trash was arraigned on Thursday, according to the 15th Circuit Solicitor's Office.

Alyssa A.Dayvault, of North Myrtle Beach, was arraigned on a charge of homicide by child abuse, which carries a possible sentence between 30 and 35 years.

In court Thursday, Dayvault rejected a plea deal in the case. Her case will go to trial, though a trial date has not yet been set.

According to warrants, Dayvault gave birth on or about Dec. 2 or 3, 2018, at her home on Oak Street in North Myrtle Beach.

North Myrtle Beach police say Dayvault admitted she birthed a newborn male at her home and stated the child was born alive and took multiple gasping breaths after being born.

On Dec. 11, 2018, NMBPD conducted a search warrant of Dayvault's home, where they found the body of a baby boy.

Authorities say Dayvault failed to secure medical treatment for the newborn in “attempt to preserve or save the child’s life," and disposed of the baby's body in a public waste receptacle at her residence, which, police say, directly caused the death of the child.

Dayvault is also accused of doing the same thing to a female child she birthed in 2017 at an apartment on David Street in North Myrtle Beach.
In 2018, the lifeless body of a baby was found in a box off Highway 44, called Baby Horry. Many suspected that Dayvault was the mother of the deceased baby, but the SLED determined she was not. Baby Horry's remains unidentified.

The boyfriend of the woman accused of giving birth to two children and then disposing of them in the trash is discussing how he felt when detectives first brought the allegations forward.

Chris Matechen said he told detectives that they were wrong when they charged 30-year-old Alyssa Anne Dayvault with two counts of homicide by child abuse and two counts of destruction, desecration or removal of human remains.

“Unless you have video evidence, let me know,”Matechen recalled saying. “And that’s when they told me they found the baby boy on our property in the garbage can.”

“And the hardest part is thinking about that baby girl that no one knew of,” Matechen said. “I go over to Cherry Grove Commons every day and I drop a flower in front of the dumpster.”

The baby was probably not his.

The medical staff of the hospital delved into Dayvault’s medical records, which showed that on Nov. 4, 2017, Dayvault entered an area hospital and was determined to be over 30 weeks into another pregnancy. In December 2018, the medical staff asked her what had happened with the 2017 pregnancy, she “denied knowing anything” about it, according to an affidavit.
He hasn’t seen those two girls, who he said he’s helped raise for the last two years, since the day their mother was taken to jail. Christmas gifts for the girls remain at his home unopened.
One day, he said, he hopes the girls will realize he didn’t abandon them and that he loves them.
“[Those] were the best two years of my life,” he said. “Those girls — they were my everything. They still are.”
That truly breaks my heart for the girls and both❤️

A woman accused of killing two babies and throwing them in the trash was expected to face a jury this week.

Her case will. She, apparently will not.

Alyssa Dayvault was scheduled to be in Horry County court this week for her trial on two counts of homicide by child abuse. But, she failed to show Monday for her first day on trial. Her lawyers said they have not spoken to Dayvault since last week. She will now face trial in her absence.

If she is found guilty, her sentence will be sealed and will be read when she is found and brought back to court. She faces life in prison.
According to arrest warrants, Dayvault was admitted to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center in early December 2018 with heavy bleeding. She delivered the placenta, but no child.

Hospital staff called the police, who spoke to Dayvault. She said she gave birth to a baby boy days earlier at her North Myrtle Beach residence, according to the warrants.

She said the boy was born alive and took gasping breaths, the warrants state. Dayvault didn’t seek medical attention and did not try to save the baby’s life, police said.

Dayvault disposed of the baby’s body in a waste receptacle at her residence, according to the warrants. Officers found the remains in a trash bin at her North Myrtle Beach home.

Police said that while they were investigating, they learned a similar situation occurred in November 2017 when Dayvault gave birth to a girl. She didn’t seek medical attention and disposed of the baby in a waste receptacle, police said.

Officers got Dayvault’s medical records, which showed in November 2017 she was pregnant and in the third trimester. The fetus at that time had a healthy heart tone, according to the warrants.

The jury found Alyssa Dayvault of North Myrtle Beach guilty on two counts of homicide by child abuse on Thursday afternoon, wrapping up a yearslong process after Dayvault killed two of her newborn children by throwing them in the trash, a baby girl in 2017 and a baby boy in 2018.

Dayvault was not in the courtroom as the verdict was read, with her whereabouts still unknown, according to the 15th Circuit Solicitor’s Office.

Chris Matechen, Dayvault’s ex-boyfriend and the biological father of the two babies, was in the courtroom Thursday afternoon when the verdict was read and appeared before the judge during the sentencing phase.

“For two years, I’ve been living with this burden, no type of closure — or anything like that,” Matechen said. “She’s been able to walk the streets for the last eight months — a free woman.”

A pathologist testified the baby boy appeared to expel meconium, fecal matter babies have when they are born, inside the trash bag. The pathologist added that showed the infant was alive when the bag was closed, slowly cutting off his oxygen supply.

"That child was alive in the trash can," prosecutor Scott Hixson said in closing arguments.

Matechen said the two slept in separate rooms because of his snoring, so he doesn’t know what happened, but when he woke he found a bathroom that had recently been cleaned. However, he saw blood on the bottom of the toilet seat.

“There was a lot of blood, red brownish blood,” he said. Dayvault had been reluctant to seek medical attention, but she let him take her to the hospital. She was admitted on Dec. 5 for complaints of heavy vaginal bleeding. Warrants state that she delivered a placenta and umbilical cord, but there was no child inside her.

Questioned by a doctor about the baby, Matechen said, he was angry and confused. He said Dayvault told him later that she had a molar pregnancy, a growth in the uterus that may cause vaginal bleeding.

“She had to have a blood transfusion,” he said, shaking his head.
He said the two were sexually active through both pregnancies, but less so in the last few months of 2018. Even then, in their most intimate moments, he believed she had simply gained weight.
The last time he saw them, he said, was near a tree on the edge of the park. A deputy had just told him Dayvault had admitted to giving birth to a boy and the boy was dead. He said he began to cry when one of the girls asked why he was upset.

“I told her I was stung by a bumblebee,” he said. "I didn’t know what to say.”

Before that moment, Matechen said, he loved their mother.

Alyssa Dayvault, 32, convicted of killing two newborns and disposing of their bodies in a dumpster has been sentenced to 40 years in prison. The defense made a motion to lessen the sentence, which was denied.

The victims’ father, Chris Matechen, and family were present at the court.

Dayvault was found guilty of two counts of homicide by child abuse during a trial the week of Oct. 12, where she did not show up for any of the four days of her trial. She later turned herself in.

Dayvault was admitted to Grand Strand Regional Hospital on Dec. 5, 2018 “for complaints of heavy vaginal bleeding. During treatment she ‘delivered’ a placenta and umbilical cord consistent with a full term pregnancy, but no child was ‘delivered,’” according to the warrants.

Police were contacted and conducted a recorded post-Miranda interview, during which Dayvault admitted she birthed a newborn male child at her home in North Myrtle Beach, according to warrants.

Dayvault stated that the child “was born alive and took multiple gasping breaths after having been born. [She] further stated that she failed to secure medical treatment and did not personally take action to attempt to preserve/save the infant’s life. [She] then disposed of the child’s body in a waste receptacle at her residence without seeking help or notifying authorities.”

She was also accused of disposing of a female newborn’s body sometime between November 4-23, 2017.

DAYVAULT, ALYSSA ANNE (00383818}

PROJECTED RELEASE DATE: 06/16/2053
PROJECTED PAROLE ELIGIBILITY: NOT ELIGIBLE
SUP. FURLOUGH ELIGIBILITY: NOT ELIGIBLE

She appealed her sentence in 2023 which was quickly denied.

PER CURIAM: Alyssa Anne Dayvault appeals her convictions for two counts of homicide by child abuse and sentence of forty years' imprisonment. On appeal, she argues the trial court erred in allowing the State to join two separate homicide by child abuse charges in the same jury trial.

We hold the trial court did not abuse its discretion in allowing the joinder of Dayvault's two homicide by child abuse charges in the same trial.
