The Dallas Zoo announced the death of Ola, an African painted dog, on Thursday. Zoo officials say she was killed during the overnight hours by her packmates.

Video from the animal enclosure showed that two-year-old brothers Jata and Mzingo were being aggressive with Ola, but zoo officials said she quickly died from her injuries sustained during the short fight.
[....]
The Dallas Zoo said the introductions between the two brothers and Ola happened three weeks ago and had gone very smooth, with no signs of aggression being shown between the dogs.

Officials with the zoo said African painted dogs live in packs with highly complex social dynamics that can shift at any moment, which is what they said happened early Thursday morning. They say it is natural for younger males to test the dominant dog in the pack and to try to establish their own dominance. The zoo reassures that the boys did nothing wrong here, and were only exhibiting natural behavior.

The two brothers did not sustain injuries and will continue to be in the habitat regularly. The zoo's plan to continue adding to the pack will continue as scheduled.

Oh wow wow wow.
They do look like military style fighting unit.

Chilling.

It's going to be difficult to introduce a female with these boys.
Maybe separate the boys and add a female in heat. But then what keeps a dominant male from mating and then killing her.

That lower picture...fuck me running. Side note, see how their ears are held to the side and back to avoid injury? That's why some domestic dogs react badly to hats, they think your ears are laid back to fight.

alone it wouldn't but together think they would be a threat unless put into already pack with a dom male, they have a complex social order and usually only female siblings or male siblings will stay in a pack when older not mix between sexes

They have ceased to be individuals, and become a hive.

they are known as the most organized predatory animal group working together of any, hyneas are nasty & organized but not as completely as the paint dogs [& they can't run bipedal even for a bit either, that just freaks me out, they also only have 4 toes not 5]
