Vestavia Hills police a shooting Saturday afternoon that injured two people in the parking lot of Chuck E. Cheese’s in Vestavia Hills was accidental.

Lt. Michael Keller with Vestavia Hills PD confirms an adult and child were shot in the restaurant’s parking lot. The male victim was shot in the chest and the child was shot in the leg.

The female child was transported to Children’s with injuries that appear to be non-life threatening. The male victim has been taken to UAB Hospital with serious injuries.
Vestavia police say the shooting happened while the man was changing the child’s diaper.

“You don’t expect anyone would bring a gun around where kids would be. It just doesn’t make any sense,” John Gerrard said.

John and Ashley Gerrard, of Bessemer, took their 2-year-old daugther to the Chuck E. Cheese’s and were there at the time of the shooting.

“I was very scared,” Ashley Gerrard said. “When you think about someone else’s child being shot, you don’t want yours to be. Anything can happen, anywhere.”

VESTAVIA HILLS, AL (WBRC) - A father has died after last weekend’s accidental shooting in the parking lot of Chuck E. Cheese’s in Vestavia Hills.

The Jefferson County Coroner has identified the victim Timothy Roshun Smith Jr. He was 22.

Smith was changing his daughter’s diaper in the parking lot when the accident happened. Investigators determined that a gun in the diaper bag accidentally went off, hitting Smith in the chest and the child in the leg.

The child was taken to Children’s of Alabama with injuries that appear to be non-life threatening. Smith was taken UAB Hospital where he died Monday afternoon.

Sounds like one was a through and through if it hit both of them :(

And it did... https://www.al.com/news/birmingham/...ng-diaper-change-outside-chuck-e-cheeses.html

Authorities said a gun was in the diaper bag. As Smith reached into the bag to get what he needed to change the girl’s diaper, he came in contact with the gun and it discharged.
A single bullet struck the girl in the leg, and entered into Smith’s chest. He was pronounced dead at UAB Hospital at 2:10 p.m. Monday. His daughter is going to be OK.
