A man in San Antonio, Texas, accused of beating his 4-month-old son earlier this year, is now charged in an unrelated 2012 murder case.

KSAT reports Bexar County court records claim 30-year-old Terrence Harper was indicted by a grand jury and now faces a capital murder charge.

San Antonio police say evidence was brought forth from the 2012 case to the Bexar County District Attorney's Office.

During the incident in 2012, a boy, also four months old, died, according to KSAT, after he was taken to the hospital with head injuries and bruising.

The death was ruled accidental and charges were not filed.

Harper was arrested in July in an unrelated case and charged with causing serious bodily injury to a child.

Harper was arrested and charged in the beating of his 4-month-old son late Monday night.

An investigation found that Harper's child had sustained fractures to the right side of his skull, suffered a brain hemorrhage and had bruising over his torso, police said.

According to an arrest affidavit, Harper texted his wife, who was out of town working, that their son "was having problems going to the bathroom, having a 'blow out' and being fussy."

Harper then sent his wife a video that showed the boy propped up on the couch, the affidavit said.

"She said the victim looked lifeless," the officer investigating the case said in the affidavit.

The toddler's mom immediately left Austin and took her son to a pediatrician's office, where he vomited and had a seizure, the affidavit said.

During his arrest Harper refused to speak to police.

I am curious what type of work mom was doing out of town and what he meant when he said the baby was having a blow out.

I'm guessing mom (with her job that takes her out of town for work) gets about 4 months maternity leave. When she goes back to work, dad offs the kid and resumes his Playstation addiction.

It was less than a month ago that Taylor Hibbens was granted full custody of her son, Trace, who was severely injured a year ago.

Trace is almost a year and a half old now, living with many disabilities. When he was 4 months old, he was allegedly abused by his father, Terrence Harper, who is charged with injury to a child.

Harper has also been indicted on a capital murder charge for the death of another 4-month-old, dating back in 2012. The indictment said Harper struck the boy with an unknown object, shook him and threw him against a wall and floor.

Doctors at University Hospital told her Trace had severe trauma, including retinal hemorrhaging, bleeding in the brain, a cracked skull, traumatic brain injury and rib fractures.

"He had a stroke, so the left side of his body was completely paralyzed. He had a face droop. He has cortical visual impairment, so he's legally blind. He now has cerebral palsy because of his TBI," Hibbens said.

Harper claims the infant's injuries were caused by the family dog. Still, days later he was arrested and charged with injury to a child.

Just five months later, in December 2018, Harper was arrested again for allegedly abusing and killing a different 4-month-old in 2012. That incident was originally ruled an accident. He is charged with capital murder of a child under 10.

"I feel like this could have been preventable," Hilbbens said. "Two innocent 4-month-olds, that's crazy."

When asked if she wouldn't have been with him if she had known about the 2012 incident, she answered, "Absolutely."

She thinks about that daily as Trace's seizures continue. Up until a month ago, he had seizures every day. Now, it's about one a week.

She said at first glance, it's hard for people to tell that Trace is disabled.

"Some people think he can see. He can't see. He can't walk. He can't talk. He can't do anything. He can't even crawl. He can't even sit up by himself," Hibbens said.

What he can do is make his mother grateful.

"He's taught me how to overcome anything," she said.

Terrence Harper has been sentenced to 99 years in prison after a jury found him guilty of injury to a child for the 2018 beating of his 4-month-old son Trace.

It was the maximum sentence allowed for the crime.
This case also led police to reopen a 2012 child death case where an infant allegedly died in Harper’s care. The incident was originally ruled an accident and he has since been charged with capital murder in that case. The indictment said Harper struck the infant with an unknown object, shook him and threw him against a wall and floor.
Taylor Hibbens previously said she was unaware of the 2012 incident involving her then-fiance Harper.

“I feel like this could have been preventable,” Hilbbens said. “Two innocent 4-month-olds, that’s crazy.”

Harper’s capital murder trial in the 2012 case is expected at a later date.
