A dog was beaten to death and then set on fire early Friday morning in Newark and now police are looking for the culprits.

Residents in the area of Columbia Avenue and Plymouth Street were awakened at 3 a.m. to the sounds of garbage cans being knocked over by a “group of young people,” according to a release from the Newark Police Department.

Later Friday morning, residents saw that the group had also damaged cars and they found the remains of the dog that was only described by police as being small.
