The father of a 9-month-old little girl who died as a result of “head and neck trauma” has been charged with murder in her death.

TraQuan R. Curtis, 21, is charged with an open count of murder in connection with the death of Izidora Roshanda Curtis, who was born Dec. 3, 2016 and died Sept. 22, 2017.

Izidora’s death certificate from the New Hanover County Register of Deeds says she died at approximately 8:43 p.m. Sept. 22. While her manner of death is listed as homicide and the certificate says she died because of “head and neck trauma,” the date of her injuries is listed as unknown.

Curtis is listed on the death certificate as being the “informant” in his daughter’s death.

On Sept. 22, Special Victims Unit Detectives with the Jacksonville Police Department began investigating Izidora’s death, according to the news release.

District Attorney Ernie Lee said he spoke with law enforcement and consulted with Assistant District Attorney Kaelyn Avery on Wednesday, the same day he authorized the murder charge and authorized Curtis’ extradition back to Onslow County.

The assistance of the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force was requested Thursday and on Friday, Curtis was arrested, according to a press release from the Jacksonville Police Department.

At this time, Lee said it is unknown whether additional charges will be brought against Curtis in the future.

Curtis was believed to be in Connecticut, and Connecticut Violent Fugitive Task Force Supervisory Deputy Brian O’Neill said they received information stating Curtis was staying with a relative on Taylor Street in Waterbury, Connecticut, which is where law enforcement, including the Waterbury Police Department, found him.

“There was no incident this morning during the arrest,” O’Neill said.

Curtis is currently in Connecticut – and O’Neill said he does not believe Curtis is a resident of the state – and will be held in the custody of the Department of Corrections as a fugitive of justice until being extradited back to Onslow County. O’Neill did not have a date for his extradition hearing.
