Four people and a suspect are dead following a standoff in San Jose, police said early Monday morning.

Authorities said the incident, which started around 8:40 p.m. Sunday along the 500 block of Habbitts Court, is being investigated as a quadruple murder-suicide.
Officers responded to the scene after receiving multiple calls regarding a shooting. When the officers arrived, two adults exited a home suffering from at least one gunshot wound each, police said.

The victims were transported to a hospital, where one of them died, police said.

Police established a perimeter around the home, and officers were trying to talk with the suspect and determine if more people were inside the home, police said.
Early Monday, police said the standoff had ended.

No further details were immediately available.

One man and three women were identified as the victims who were shot inside the home located along the 500 block of Habbitts Court, police said. The suspect was identified as a male.

"It appears the suspect shot the four victims before committing suicide by shooting himself," police said in a statement.

Police surrounded the house Sunday night after receiving calls of shots fired. The suspect's wife, daughter and niece fled the home and told officers that the gunman had shot at several people inside.
During the standoff, officers rescued a man and a woman from the front room of the house. Both died at a hospital from gunshot wounds, Garcia said.

With two family members unaccounted for, Garcia said police made entry and found the male suspect deceased in the side yard. Two female victims were found dead inside the house.
The victims' identities have not been released, nor information on the relationships they had with the suspect. The family members did not have any recorded history of domestic violence, Garcia said.
Authorities are investigating the incident as a murder-suicide, though a motive has not been determined. Because no gunshots were heard after police arrived, authorities believe the killings happened before the standoff.
