Thirty-year-old Kyle Thiel is in trouble with the law after a 4-month-old was brought into the hospital with a broken arm and fractured ribs.

The affidavit says the report came from a doctor at a local hospital on Dec. 26, they suspected the baby might have been abused.

Doctors were concerned because the baby had a fracture to his left arm and was brought into the hospital months prior with bruising to his face.

A pediatrician told police the baby had injuries to his ribs that looked non accidental.

On Dec. 27, Thiel told police he hadn’t been honest with them. He admitted to dropping the baby on Christmas day on the hard wood floor and heard a pop when he hit the ground. Thiel says he lied about how the baby got his injuries because he was afraid of losing his family. Officers say Thiel also admitted to tickling the baby too hard and holding him tight.

The affidavit says Thiel told police that nothing he’s done was intentional.

Documents say the baby had a broken arm, eight fractured ribs and periosteal reaction in both legs and left arm.

A judge sentenced a New Salem man to 60 days after pleading guilty to abusing a 4-month-old and fracturing his ribs.

Prosecutors say 31-year-old Kyle Thiel is accused of dropping the baby.

A judge ordered more than $7,000 in restitution. Thiel must also register as an offender against children, must have a parental capacity evaluation, no unsupervised contact and supervised visits with social services.

After serving time at the Burleigh Morton Detention Center, Thiel is ordered to do three years of supervised probation.
