More than 30 years after 19-year-old Dora Brimage was found beaten and strangled inside a building in Roxbury, the man who killed her has been convicted of the murder, according to the Suffolk DA Daniel Conley.

A jury on Friday found James Paige, 51, guilty of first-degree murder for Brimage's slaying.
Paige faces life in prison without the possibility of parole when he is sentenced on Tuesday.

On Sept. 6, 1987, Brimage attended a birthday party for one of Paige's relatives, but never returned home.

The next morning, construction workers found Brimage's body inside a building that was under construction. She had been badly beaten, sexually assaulted and strangled.

Investigators initially collected DNA samples and interviewed potential witnesses, however, at the time, DNA profiling that could match the samples and identify her killer was not available.

It was only in 2013 when detectives from the Boston Police Cold Case Squad re-interviewed witnesses and reviewed the DNA evidence collected from Brimage's body.

By entering a DNA profile into the FBI's Combined DNA Index System, or CODIS, investigators were able to match the killer's DNA profile to Paige.

Paige had previously been convicted for another case, which explains why his DNA sample was in the system.

The match then led to further investigation into Paige's connection to the murder, eventually leading to his indictment in 2016.

Paige is scheduled for sentencing on Tuesday at the Suffolk Superior Court.

A Boston woman whose 19-year-old daughter was beaten, strangled, sexually assaulted and left to die in a vacant building more than 30 years ago has told the man convicted of the killing that she forgives him.

The Boston Herald reports that Doris Brimage said at sentencing for James Paige on Tuesday that "I forgive him even though he did this to my first born."

The 51-year-old Paige was sentenced to life in prison without parole following his conviction on a first-degree murder charge last week in the September 1987 death of Dora Jean Brimage.

Prosecutors have said Paige offered Brimage a ride home after a party in Boston.

In court, he denied being the killer.
