Emtech, a 3-year-old colt , went down in the middle of the track at Santa Anita Park. The horse was not able to get back up. His jockey was tossed.
Workers immediately put up a green screen to shield the foundering colt from the crowd, Emtech’s front were legs unable to bear the animal's weight. Veterinarians euthanized the horse.

Emtech’s death is the 32 death since December.

I wouldnt necessarily blame the track on this one.
When man alters things to achieve speed, other things fail.
These horses are selectively bred to weigh less. What they end up with is super fast extremely fragile horses.
I am in agreement with you about the breeding. But this track has a horrible record for injuries and deaths of horses. 32 since DEC and an average of one horse death a week is atrocious. I am glad to hear they are looking at banning race day medication. Hopefully the US will ban all of those similar to Europe and Asia
