"San Diego police say three bodies have been found in the trunk of a car by officers investigating a report of a suspicious vehicle.

The Union-Tribune reports someone called police to say that a BMW had been parked for two days on a residential street in the Bay Terraces neighborhood.

Police homicide Lt. Martha Sainz says when officers opened the trunk Sunday evening they found the bodies of two females and one male. All three are believed to be in their late teens or early 20s.

Sainz says the county Medical Examiner's office will try to determine the identity of the victims and the manner and cause of death."

I used to live in San Diego and that place is a dream to be in. It has the lowest violent crime rate of any major city and the lowest murder rate of any large city, 1.9 murders per 100k population (as compared to Baltimore's 52 murders per 100k and Chicago's 22 murders per 100k). Also, it has one of the smallest police departments with 14 police officers per 100k population, compared to Chicago's 47 per 100k.

Murders are pretty rare there, but when they do happen its often something strange and/or unusual.
