Police arrested a man Wednesday and charged him with first-degree murder in relation to the death of his stepdaughter, according to KFSM.

Olivia Soto lived with her mother and her mother's new husband, Jordan Shreeve.

Shortly after Soto celebrated her second birthday last November, Shreeve called 911, hung up and called back, according to a police report. He reportedly told the dispatcher to send an ambulance to his home address and hung up.

Investigators said Shreeve was not home when they arrived. Olivia and her mother were the only ones home.

Police said the mother led them down a hallway to a room where the toddler was unresponsive on a bed. Police performed CPR until EMS arrived to provide further treatment.

Shreeve arrived at the home about an hour later, police said. He told investigators he left to take a friend home.

Inside the home, police found blood on the couch, in the hallway and on a dresser in the bedroom. Reports said Olivia had bruising on the left side of her face.

For three months, police continued gathering information. Neither Shreeve nor Olivia's mother told police what happened before the 911 call.

"We actually had one of our investigators go the funeral and attend and the mother never showed up to that funeral," Van Buren Police Sargent Jonathan Wear said.

An autopsy report stated that Olivia died by the actions of a person, not from falling out of her crib like her mother told police.

A man charged in connection with the death of a 2-year-old girl in 2018 was acquitted Monday in Crawford County Circuit Court.

A jury found Jordan Michael Shreeve, 36, of Van Buren not guilty of both first degree murder and second degree murder, according to court records. Kristen Edwards, court administrator for the Crawford County Circuit Clerk's Office, said the trial began before Circuit Judge Mike Medlock on June 22.

Shreeve told Van Buren police on Nov. 8, 2018, he believed Olivia Soto, 2, fell out of her crib and injured her head, according to court documents. Sgt. Jonathan Wear, Van Buren police spokesman, identified Olivia as the daughter of Eva Mae Millard, 29, of Van Buren, who Shreeve had recently married.

However, rather than go to the Police Department the following morning to discuss the autopsy report on Olivia as they were supposed to do, Shreeve and Millard went to Michigan. They remained out of the department's reach for about three months. Doctors who did the autopsy showed Olivia died from severe head trauma with injuries inconsistent with Shreeve's version of events, according to police.

Chad Atwell and Chris Carwile of the Fayetteville-based Atwell Law Firm represented Shreeve in the case, court records state. Atwell said while they had been trying to get in front of a jury since the day Shreeve was arrested, his heart "still breaks for the Soto family."

"I hope the Soto family gets some answers somewhere else, but regardless, I think the jury got it accurate," Atwell said.

Atwell noted the jury came back with its verdicts after less than two hours of deliberation. He also expressed his belief Shreeve has always been innocent "not in a legal way, but in a factual way and a pragmatic way and all those things."

Millard will be tried on one charge each of first degree endangering the welfare of a minor, a class D felony, and permitting abuse of a minor, a class B felony, in relation to the case, court records show.

A hearing was held Wednesday, Dec. 29, for a Van Buren mother who was accused in the death of her toddler, Olivia Soto.

Olivia died in 2018 just four days after her 2nd birthday.

Eva Millard's trial was initially scheduled for Jan. 20. 2022, but she took a plea deal Wednesday.
Millard pleaded guilty to the charge of Permitting Child Abuse Resulting in Death and was sentenced to 20 years suspended imposition of sentence conditioned upon 60 days community service.

Millard also pleaded guilty to the charge of Endangering the Welfare of a Minor and was sentenced to six years supervised probation through Arkansas Community Corrections, and must pay the $35 per month fee.

Olivia's stepfather, Jordan Shreeve, was also arrested for the crime and charged with murder. A jury found him not guilty earlier this year.
It's believed that Soto died of abuse. In 2018, investigators say Shreeve called 911 asking for an ambulance but left home before first responders arrived. Police found blood on the couch, down the hallway, and on a dresser in the bedroom. According to reports from investigators, the child had bruising on the left side of her face.

According to an autopsy report mentioned by detectives, Olivia died by the actions of a person and not by falling out of her crib like her mother, Eva Millard, originally told police.
