Officials say a 2-year-old Augusta girl is dead because of a fight over a car.

The Richmond County Sheriff's Office says the child's mother, Jackqueline Ingram, 19, and her boyfriend Marquie Gunter, 28, were arguing over who could use a car when Gunter started firing a gun outside a home on Meadowbrook Drive.

The gunshots hit the vehicle and Ingram ran inside the home for protection. Officials say Gunter then kicked open the door and fired the gun again, this time hitting 2-year-old Ja’Ziah Pollard in the head.

The toddler was taken to the hospital where she later died.

Gunter has been charged with murder, aggravated assault, second degree criminal damage to property, possession of a firearm in the commission of a crime, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Gunter is not the sperm donor of Ja’Ziah.

Just ten days before she lost her daughter, she gave birth to a son, Marquie Gunter's son. To add to this nightmare, Ingram says she didn't know Gunter was convicted of child molestation until she saw it on News 12. She also says she didn't know he had a gun. The pain is very raw but this mother wants people to remember her little girl.

Augusta District Attorney Jared T. Williams has announced the conviction and sentencing of a man who shot and killed a 2-year-old girl in 2019.

32-year-old Marquie Gunter pled guilty to two counts Felony Murder, Aggravated Assault – Family Violence, 1st & 2nd Degree Criminal Damage to Property, and two counts Possession of a Firearm.
Investigators say the 2-year-old girl’s mother got into an argument with Gunter over the use of a vehicle. DA Williams says Gunter wanted to go play video games with his friend. When the child’s mother refused, Gunter reportedly said if he couldn’t drive it, then nobody could.

He then reportedly shot the van 10 times.
After Ingram ran inside the home and locked the door, Gunter kicked it down and fired once inside the home, a shot that ricocheted inside the home, striking the toddler in the head. She died at the hospital.

DA Williams says this happened just 10 days after the mother gave birth to Gunter’s son.
Gunter was sentenced to Life in Prison plus 10 years.

is it life w/o possibility of parole or life which is usually 25 to life?? because if he has to serve 25 plus 10 years (again 10 years isn't really 10 years) he will be around 60 by the time of his release so lots of time to re-offense :( ...

i sure am glad they uped the life sentence from 14 years to 30 but i still think that anyone who intentionally takes a life has to forfeit their own and it you take the life of a child , a senior or disable person you have no choice on how that sentence will be carried and it should be carried in the worse painful way possible..
