Disturbing new details have been released concerning the
death of a toddler who died inside his home Dec. 3.
According to the county prosecutor Herman Cox, 21-month-old Rowan Cannette was subjected to burns, bruises and bites before his death, along with a home where drugs were used.
The boy’s father, Thomas Cannette, faces three counts of felony child neglect, along with Cassandra Lopresto.
Investigator testified they found two meth pipes in the bedroom. The detective identified them as meth pipes, but they are being sent to the state crime lab for testing.
“The two other children had traces of meth in their system," Cox said. “They couldn’t get it in their system by inhaling. They had to ingest it somehow. How they ingested it we don’t know.”
Cox said investigators showed graphic photos of the children’s injuries to the couple. “We had a lot of photographs showing cigarette burns on the children and bruises. The photographs were very disturbing," Cox said.
The conditions inside the home were disturbing, even described as “deplorable.” Investigators also noticed “obvious signs of abuse and neglect on the two other children.”
Cox said Cannette took the stand and acknowledged that they locked the bedroom doors of the children because the 3-year-old would get out at night and get into the ice box. They had a hook and eye latch and locked it at night.
“I asked him why didn’t he just put a lock on the ice box and not on the door and he responded that DHS had told his girlfriend that would be wrong," Cox said.
