Deceased: 18M Girl Dies From Methadone Exposure

A Lexington woman faces a murder charge after her child died Friday after being exposed to methadone, authorities said.

Rebecca Raeann Reagan, 23, is charged with second-degree murder and felony child abuse.

An 18-month-old girl was seen Tuesday at Lexington Medical Center after being exposed to methadone. The child was then transferred to Brenner Children’s Hospital in Winston-Salem.

Evidence showed that the child tested positive for methadone and had been unresponsive for an extended period of time before she was taken to the hospital.

Investigators received information about the child's condition from Davidson County Department of Social Services.

Deputies and Thomasville police then executed a search warrant at two locations.

Reagan was initially charged with child abuse and later with murder after the child died.

Reagan was being held Friday in the Davidson County Jail with her bond at $500,000.

So after a period of taking supervised daily doses at a clinic (usually 6ish months) and they’ve deemed you responsible they will give you a small supply to take home and administer yourself. Sometimes it’s a tablet but a lot of times it’s a liquid that people put in soda or juice. Obviously kids want a taste and sadly this is not the first case of this to be featured on DD.

Rebecca RaeAnn Reagan, 25, passed away on January 16, 2023. She was born May 21, 1997 in Mecklenburg County to Cynthia Rae Wilson.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Kyleigh Reagan.

Rebecca Raeann Reagan was never sentenced for the 2020 murder charges she faced because she died in a head-on car crash in January 2023.

At the time of her death, Reagan was 25 years old and awaiting trial for second-degree murder and felony child abuse related to the October 2020 death of an 18-month-old girl who was exposed to methadone.

• Fatal Accident (January 16, 2023): North Carolina Highway Patrol reported that Reagan was driving a 2005 Toyota on N.C. 150 in Davidson County when she drove left of center and collided head-on with a Chevy SUV.
