A 17-year-old South Dakota male faces charges after a missing teen girl was found dead inside his basement, according to a report.

Michael Gavin Campbell was charged as an adult with second-degree murder in the death of 16-year-old Shayna Ritthaler of Wyoming.https://www.argusleader.com/story/n...girls-body-found-sturgis-basement/3918257002/

Ritthaler, of Moorcroft, was reported missing Oct. 3.

Prosecutors allege that Campbell shot her after the pair got into an argument at his home.

Her body was discovered when authorities executed a search warrant on the residence.

The Meade County Sheriff’s Office declined to release a cause of death pending an autopsy.

Campbell’s attorney said that he will request the case be moved to juvenile court. He said that his client will plead not guilty at his court appearance scheduled for Oct. 17.

With the exception of his big ass eyebrows, he looks like the pictures my bf sends me to freak me out of people with their faces edited all tiny. Like this one.

The 17-year-old defendant originally was charged as an adult with alternative counts of first- and second-degree murder in the killing of Shayna Ritthaler of Upton, Wyoming. Meade County State’s Attorney Michele Bordewyk told the Rapid City Journal the boy is expected to plead guilty to manslaughter on Thursday. He originally pleaded not guilty and not guilty by reason of insanity.

Bordewyk and the teen's defense attorney, Steven Titus, have agreed to ask the judge for a 55-year sentence, but the judge does not have to agree to their recommendation.
[....]
Titus said he hopes the judge agrees to the sentence since it gives the teen “a light at the end of the tunnel” by making him eligible for parole in his early 40s.

Titus had planned on arguing that his client should be transferred to juvenile court, but that hearing was canceled given the plea deal. The Associated Press isn’t naming the defendant because his case might end up back in juvenile court.

Titus said the plea deal also means he’s dropping the insanity defense, which argued that the defendant was not mentally competent at the time of the killing.

The arrest affidavit is sealed and officials have not yet shared how the two met, their relationship and the events leading up to her death.

The defendant remains in the juvenile jail in Rapid City on $1 million bond.

20-30 years for murder.

Vile.

To be young/white in America!!!!

Curious if the girls family was involved in the prosecutor offering this NO JUSTICE plea deal. Fucking sickening. If they were consulted and okay'd it, then either shame on them, or shame on the lawyers involved for threatening with this "didnt do it cuz im a droolin, "mentally ill" braindead moron" nonsense that so frequently gets peddled whenever some asswipe violently attacks someone.

A plea deal has been reached in the killing of a 16-year-old Wyoming girl near Sturgis last October.

Michael Gavin Campbell, 17, was charged with shooting death Shayna Ritthaler.

Campbell was sentenced to 55 years in prison. He must serve 27 of them before his parole. He was charged and pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter and will pay court costs.

He and Ritthaler had an argument that turned violent and he shot her in the basement of a home in southeast Sturgis.

Outside of the rally, I expect life in Sturgis is hard.

You being sarcastic or you actually think this for some reason?

Just a small town located within 15-20 min of the 2nd biggest city in the entire state. Somewhat centrally located as well so as to not be an unreasonable commute from another decent sized college-town of Spearfish, SD. Of course ready access and close proximity to the Black Hills and all the recreation and scenery it has to offer. Not sure what would be so hard about it. Not like you're in some podunk, isolated or awful/destitute area.
