HOMER, La. — The Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections says 10 inmates were injured during a lightning strike while they played flag football.
News outlets report several inmates from the David Wade Correctional Center were hospitalized Monday evening after lightning stuck while they were in the yard.
A statement from the department says one person was listed in critical condition and the others were considered in stable condition.
The statement says the correctional center has a procedure to clear the yard during potentially dangerous weather but the lightning strike came without warning.
