Meredith Nicole Deen, 20, said, “Why don’t you die? Why are you still alive?” while sitting on her 4-month-old daughter in hopes of killing the infant.

Deen had reportedly covered the infant with several blankets and pillows before sitting on her. She has been charged with felony attempted capital murder.

Court records obtained by KTRK indicate Deen’s boyfriend witnessed her punch the 4-month-old shortly before she tried to smother the infant. The boyfriend also said Deen allegedly told him she wanted to throw her daughter against the wall.

The incident came to light when the girl showed up at daycare the next day, reportedly trembling. Sheriff’s deputies were called and the infant was taken to a hospital where doctors found no serious injuries.

Deen allegedly admitted to trying to smother the girl once before. She said she was mad that her mother would not take care of the infant.

Deen expressed remorse for her actions while being interviewed by investigators, KTRK reported.

Court documents stated the woman's live-in boyfriend witnessed Deen punch the baby before trying to smother the infant.

Authorities said the boyfriend had to pull the mother off the girl when he was awakened by the baby's crying.

Documents went on to state that Deen attacked her boyfriend the next day when they were on their way to drop off the child at daycare, where workers later noticed the child trembling and shaking.

"Once they informed me they were on their way to our location, I decided to call the cops so they could interfere with the mother here and whatever had happened at her house," said daycare manager Amy Ray.

Ray said everyone at the daycare was concerned about the baby and the mother's health.

The boyfriend informed staff of what happened the day before, prompting employees to contact Harris County deputies.

"It's scary because it's not common to have EMS and cops all around our building," recalled Ray. "But we definitely just want the child to be protected."

The baby was taken to Texas Children's Hospital in The Woodlands, where a doctor found no sign of injuries.

Deputies stated Deen was sent to the Harris Center for a mental evaluation after threatening harm to herself.

While at the Harris Center, deputies interviewed the woman, who said she became upset earlier in the week when her mom refused to care for the baby.

She also told them that she had tried smothering the child with a pillow a first time, holding it over the baby for around 30 seconds.

It was during a second attempt that her boyfriend stopped her.

Deen stated she was sorry for hurting her child.

It is a miracle the baby was not killed and if the child had not gone to daycare she probably would be.

I get dad pulled her off the baby but he was going to get that child from daycare and let the mother have access to that baby again.

She is remorseful because she is getting in trouble for what she did.

What happens the next time she is mad at her mother, her penis or the toaster....

No custody till the kid can fight back.
How about no custody. Period.

What happens the next time she is mad at her mother, her penis or the toaster....
Especially the toaster. And that isn't a joke. Who knows exactly what will set this time bomb off next time? She tried to kill her baby because she was 'upset with her mother.' She needs a cell. Padded or otherwise.

Stupid cow!!
The baby didn't die thank goodness, but the incubator's ass needs to! Hopefully the baby gets a good home where she can become all she wants to be in life. Unlike the spoiled entitled asshole the "mother" grew up to be!!! I'm so mad right now! Just the thought of her asking the baby "Why won't you die?" Ughh
Lock her up and throw a way the key! Who knows who will upset the entitled hag next and worse who will pay the price for it!

HOUSTON (FOX 26) - A Harris County mother is charged with attempted capital murder of her 4-month-old child after she allegedly punched the child and placed a pillow over the baby's face.

The witness, who is in a relationship with Deen, told deputies that while they were at their apartment on June 13 she told him that she punched the child and wanted to throw the baby against the wall, according to the court documents. Investigators say the witness also reported seeing Deen place pillows and blankets on the baby and sit on top of them. He told the deputy that he pulled the mother off of the baby, but that later in the night she again placed pillow and blankets over the baby and sat on top of them, court documents state. Investigators say he reported hearing Deen say "why don't you die, why are you still alive".

On the morning of June 14, court documents say the witness was driving Deen and the baby to daycare when she began punching and kicking the man in the vehicle. When he got to the daycare, the sheriff’s office was called. The child was taken to the hospital. According to deputies, a physician said the baby had no signs of injury.

Authorities say Deen was taken for evaluation after making statements of self-harm. Investigators say the woman admitted to punching the baby and putting a pillow over the baby’s face on two occasions. According to court documents, she told investigators that she could not care for her child alone and that she was sorry for hurting the baby.

A mother accused of trying to kill her four-month-old baby, made her first court appearance Monday night. Although her child wasn't seriously hurt, we have learned she is facing attempted capital murder charges.

Meredith Deen, 20, stood quiet during her probable cause hearing. The details of the violence she allegedly inflicted on her child were not shared in court, but all the details were in court documents.

Apparently, Deen had become frustrated with her mother when she refused to help Deen take care of the infant. Deen admitted she could not take care of her baby on her own. The documents state on Thursday, Deen told her boyfriend she had punched her infant, and wanted to throw the 4-month-old against the wall.

On Monday, Deen heard the terms of her bond. Hearing officer Connie Spence said, “For the next 91 days, Miss Deen, you don’t need to have any contact with Ryan Deen... you are prohibited from possessing a firearm. You are prohibited from going within 200 feet of any place of residence where Ryan Deen may live.”

The attorney representing Deen in court said she had just started work at a beauty supply store, was studying to be a medical assistant, and had never been in trouble with the law up until this point.

However, the state was favored in that Deen is prohibited from having any contact with her child for three months. Her bond was set at $50,000.

I hope in three months we don't read about her succeeding in killing the baby.
