According to a news release issued Monday, the child’s mother, Tabitha Rose Zimmerman, 28, was arrested on Thursday on two counts of cruelty and injuries to children. Her boyfriend Chad Andrew Ritchie, 28, was arrested earlier the same day on charges of second-degree murder, malicious wounding and two counts of cruelty to children.

“A second child from the residence was examined at Warren Memorial Hospital and was determined to need further medical attention,” the release states. “The second child is also 22 months old and the sibling of the first. The second child was admitted to a regional hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.”

Court documents state that Zimmerman called the Warren County Sheriff’s Office at 6:36 p.m. Wednesday to tell them that her 22-month old son was not breathing. According to the court documents, Zimmerman was not in the house but had been told by Ritchie that her son was not breathing.

“The mother stated that Chad Ritchie, her boyfriend and the person caring for her two children, had called her and stated he was with her son at their shared residence in Warren County,” the criminal complaint against Zimmmerman reads.

Ritchie called 911 and said he was with the child in their basement, the complaint states.

Warren County Fire and Rescue transported that child and his twin brother to Warren Memorial Hospital. According to court documents, the more seriously injured of the two boys “had rectal injuries with fresh blood around the rectal area, abdominal bruising in several spots, bruises to the head, left ear bruising, blood inside his ear, and a possible puncture wound to the lower left leg.” The boy was pronounced dead at the hospital.

“The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy on the child and found the cause of death to be multiple blunt force traumas,” the criminal complaints against Zimmerman and Ritchie read.

According to the criminal complaint against Zimmerman, the surviving twin brother also had injuries “consistent with assault.”

“Preliminary medical tests on the surviving child show malnourishment over the last year and extensive physical abuse,” the complaint reads.

According to the criminal complaint against Ritchie, he admitted to Sheriff’s Office investigators that he had assaulted the two children.

According to the criminal complaint against Zimmerman, she said in an interview with investigators that she “was aware of a pattern of abuse by Ritchie on each of her children.”

The complaint adds that Zimmerman’s and Ritchie’s residence at 908 Blue Mountain Road had household poisons “and other hazardous materials” accessible to the children. Police found the poisons during an execution of a search warrant, the complaint states.

Two stories today of one of two twins dying at the hands of an abusive asshole. This is a sad day on the DD. And this one was so preventable the cunt of a mother just had to report the abuse.. nothing more, nothing less just report it and not protect her dick.

... the surviving child show malnourishment over the last year ...
It used to be I would just get angry at parents when I see fat kids waddling around, even more so when I would go to all-you-can-eat restaurant and watch their corpulent parents not only help their portly spawn get massive amounts of food, but actually encourage their tubby asses to gorge themselves as well. Now I'm angry at the opposite, thanks DD!

In a surprise development 29-year-old Chad Andrew Ritchie entered Alford guilty pleas on all four charges against him stemming from the November 8, 2017 death of 22-month-old toddler Malachi Zimmerman and injuries to his twin brother.

The involved twin toddlers were the children of Ritchie’s then girlfriend Tabitha Zimmerman, with whom he lived with. The children were in the care of Ritchie the day of Malachi’s death last November.

After being treated by Warren County Fire and Rescue at the scene and in transport to Warren Memorial Hospital, Malachi Zimmerman was pronounced dead at the hospital. Cause of death was determined to be cardiac arrest brought on by internal bleeding from a ruptured intestine that flooded the child’s stomach cavity.

The twins’ mother Tabitha Zimmerman, 29, has been charged on two counts of cruelty and injuries to children revolving around what prosecutors contend was a willful neglect of signs of a pattern of abuse by her former boyfriend. The Ritchie defense said in its opening statement that older marks on the children were the result of being active toddlers prone to falling and rough play with each other, not a sign of any pattern of abuse.

Zimmerman’s trial is scheduled for April 8-9-10 in the same Warren County Circuit Courtroom.

After murdering a 22-month-old baby and injuring their twin, a Front Royal man was sentenced on Friday to 20 years in prison.

Chad Ritchie entered a plea deal in the second-degree murder case of his girlfriend's child which limited his sentence to a maximum of 20 years.

In November 2017, police say Ritchie hit the two children several times.
During Friday’s sentencing, Judge Clifford L. Athey said that a 20-year punishment seemed appropriate, noting that it was around the midpoint of the sentencing guidelines. Athey called the situation a “tragedy” that cut short the life of Maliki Zimmerman and would affect Micah, the surviving child, for the rest of his life.

“Micah will live on remembering his brother for the rest of his life,” Athey said.

Throughout Friday’s sentencing, the defense attorneys, Jason Ransom and Jonathan Silvester, sought to portray Ritchie as a caring father who got overwhelmed and frustrated one day, causing him to lose control and hit the children. They also argued that Malaki’s death was caused because Ritchie had performed adult CPR on a child.

But Commonwealth’s Attorney Bryan Layton argued that Ritchie had displayed a pattern of abuse. He said that even in the “version” of the events that Ritchie portrays, Ritchie hit the children more than once.
On the night that Malaki died, Layton said, Micah had been so severely beaten that he had stopped crying.

“How hard do you have to hit a 22-month-old that they don’t even cry at that point?” Layton asked in his closing arguments.

I'm sorry does anyone else notice the 'rectal bleeding' part seemed to be glossed over?
Hs attorney said he was a 'loving caring father'??? Like did they really try to sell that? Bc last i checked leaving your kid with “ rectal injuries with fresh blood around the rectal area" was not a loving nor caring nor fatherly thing to do to a 22month old baby.
I hope his cellmates leave him with “rectal injuries with fresh blood around the rectal area" and then some!

I did notice—especially when they said Malaki died from blood pooling in his abdomen. So was it from a broken rib puncture? Or was it from a rectal assault that tore the lower intestine. 20 years isn’t enough for this piece of shit.

The mother of a dead toddler will serve no time for her role in the death of the child, despite being found guilty on the charges she faced.

On Wednesday, a jury found Tabitha Zimmerman, 28, guilty on two counts of negligent child endangerment, after her 22-month-old son was killed by her then-boyfriend, Chad Ritchie, in November of 2017. Zimmerman was at work during the incident, in which Ritchie was watching the child and his twin brother.
