A man was arrested Sunday night for allegedly menacing an Asian woman in Manhattan while screaming “Wuhan, you’re the reason,” law enforcement sources said.

Nikolas Long, 38, is accused of threatening the 44-year-old victim with a glass bottle in Greenwich Village, sources said.

His remarks toward her were an apparent reference to Wuhan, China, where the coronavirus outbreak first erupted late last year.

Long, who has 18 prior arrests, was busted at about 9 p.m. less than a block away from the alleged attack.

Charges against Long for Sunday’s incident are pending.

  • Charges: He was initially charged with aggravated harassment as a hate crime. [1, 2]
  • Sentencing: In later legal proceedings, he reportedly received a sentence involving probation and mental health treatment, reflecting a common outcome for non-violent harassment cases at that time that were linked to mental health concerns. [1]
