Sentenced: Druggie GA Mother Killed Her Baby

A Georgia mother is behind bars after police said they found the body of her infant inside their home Thursday night.

Investigators were called out to the home in Chatham County shortly after 10:30 p.m. Thursday.

When officers arrived at the home, they found the infant’s body and her mother, Jennifer Cooper, 33, was still there.

Cooper has been charged with murder, possession of a controlled substance, and drug-related objects.

Investigators said an autopsy will be done on the child to determine a cause of death.

A Chatham County mother accused of killing her infant child has been sentenced to 8 years in prison.

Jennifer Leigh Cooper was arrested in August 2023 after police found 2-month-old Randy Williams Taylor dead at a home on Quacco Road.

Detectives say Cooper claimed to have fallen asleep on top of the baby on the couch. But the baby had injuries on his neck and back and had swollen eyes to which, detectives say, Cooper could not explain.

Blood tests later showed Cooper and her child both had methamphetamine in their system. Detectives were able to find more meth and marijuana inside the home.

She was sentenced to 20 years, with the first eight in confinement and the remaining 12 on probation.
