Sentenced: Texas Quran Instructor Exploited Religion To Manipulate Mom Into Making Sexually Explicit Videos Of Her Child

Wisam Sharieff, of Euless, is accused of instructing an Alabama woman to produce sexually explicit videos of her daughter for him, according to a criminal complaint filed in Alabama federal court by the FBI.

A woman identifying herself as Sharieff’s wife notified authorities on Oct. 15 that she’d seen videos on Sharieff’s phone of a little girl watching adult pornography. The child’s mother was explaining the sexual acts to her, the complaint states.

The caller said she’d also found messages in the Telegram app between Sharieff and the mother where he instructed her to record videos of the abuse and send them to him, according to the complaint.

The caller said she recognized the girl and the mother from having met them at a conference.

Investigators with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office in Alabama followed up on the tip and arrested the mother the same day on a charge of sexual abuse of a child less than 12 years of age, officials said in a news release.

The mother told investigators that Sharieff was her online Quran instructor. He told her that certain sexual activities “would help her spiritually and allow her to communicate with Allah,” the complaint against the imam states. She wanted the child to “become closer to Allah as well.”

According to the complaint, the mother produced videos of herself and the child performing sexual acts on themselves. She then sent the videos to Sharieff so he “could guide them and let them know how far they were progressing on their quest to become closer to Allah.”

I'm sure there are likely more. But some predators are really, really good at picking out who would be most likely to submit and actually do it. Almost like a disgusting sixth sense.
He's lucky. There are some women who would have ensured he needed a nice stay at the hospital first. Preferably one where the doctor has to inform him that the penis was just too destroyed for any chance of reattachment.

Two individuals have been sentenced for their roles in a conspiracy to sexually exploit a child, announced U.S. Attorney Prim F. Escalona.

On Thursday, United States District Judge Anna M. Manasco, sentenced Wisam Sharieff, 44, of Euless, Texas, to 960 months in prison, followed by a life term of supervised release. Sharieff was also ordered to pay a $135,000 special assessment under the Amy, Vicky, and Andy Act (AVAA). In June 2025, Sharieff pleaded guilty to conspiracy to engage in sexual exploitation of children, conspiracy to receive and distribute child pornography, and sexual exploitation of children.

In October 2025, Sharieff’s co-defendant Blake Miller Barakat, also known as “Hamna,” 50, of Shelby County, Alabama, was sentenced to 840 months in prison followed by a life term of supervised release. Barakat was also ordered to pay a $30,000.00 AVAA special assessment. In June 2025, Barakat pleaded guilty to sexual exploitation of children, distribution of child pornography, and possession of child pornography.

Using the title of Imam, Sharieff was an online instructor who specialized in Quran recitation and professed to have taught over 25,000 students worldwide. Barakat was one of Sharieff’s online students. According to court documents, Sharieff told Barakat that a person could improve their recitation and become closer to Allah through achieving sexual pleasure. In October 2024, Sharieff and Barakat repeatedly watched and shared adult pornography videos with each other online and then influenced a seven-year-old child to watch these videos. Both defendants further coerced this child to engage in sexually explicit conduct for the purpose of producing child pornography.

“The defendants’ crimes are among the most appalling of societal and criminal offenses,” said U.S. Attorney Escalona. “This District will relentlessly pursue criminals that target children. I commend the dedicated collaboration of our law enforcement partners in Alabama and Texas in bringing these defendants to justice.”
