Police are looking for Derrick Woods, 43 of Sacramento, as they investigate what they referred to as the violent homicide of a one-year-old child. Police said Woods is considered dangerous and that, if anyone knows where he is, they should call police immediately without approaching him.

"He's considered wanted at this point in association with a violent felony and should be considered dangerous. So, do not approach him, do not make contact with him, just contact the police and allow us to go out and make that contact," said Sgt. Stefan Iwanicki.

Police originally responded to Silvey's Motel for a welfare check around 12 p.m. on Monday. Officials said officers found the child dead from traumatic injuries.

Authorities said they have a homicide arrest warrant for Woods, and said that he was last seen running from the area at the time of the incident. Woods is described as a Black man who stands at 5 foot 7 inches and weighs 170 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.

I will never understand how any adult can beat a defenseless baby. I hope he dies violently and in insufferable pain. The criminal justice system shouldn’t have to house and feed something that has no value to society or humanity.

If the mom knew he was dangerous and left her baby with him, I hope her suffering never ends. If she was blameless, she should never have to pay one penny in taxes as long as taxpayers are footing the bill for his continued existence.

Extreme cold. Pandemic. Division in our country. Children are living in such difficulty right now. It’s so unfair when they, our future, aren’t given they love they need to grow up and right the wrongs they were born into. I wish people would realize that our babies heal us and make us better rather than take anger and frustration out on those who are truly innocent.

A man sought on suspicion of homicide after a 1-year-old child was found dead Monday at a West Sacramento motel was located and arrested about 24 hours later at a home in Sacramento, police said.

The West Sacramento Police Department identified the suspect as 43-year-old Derrick Woods of Sacramento in a news release Monday evening.

Woods' exact charges were not announced. Police in the initial news release referred to the child's death as "violent" and said they obtained a homicide arrest warrant.

Berry Accius, a Sacramento Black community advocate, has worked to help Amanda’s mother and her family since her daughter’s death. He said the mother has struggled with the loss of her daughter and the injuries to her 3-year-old son, who was left with Woods in the motel room with his baby sister.

“Just to hear the mother’s cries ... it’s like her worst nightmare has come true,” said Accius, who is the founder of the mentorship program Voice of the Youth.
Woods has a long criminal history in Sacramento County, including the convictions for child abuse and domestic battery dating back nearly 25 years.

Sacramento Superior Court records show Woods with numerous criminal convictions dating back to the mid-1990s. Most of them are misdemeanor domestic violence charges, some of which were reduced from initial felony charges, court records show.

Woods pleaded no contest to a felony charge of corporal injury to a spouse or partner in 2005 and no contest to a misdemeanor charge of corporal injury to a child filed in 1996, according to court records. The 2005 felony conviction resulted in a five-year probation term.
Accius said the mother dated Woods for a few months, didn’t know him well and “had no idea” Woods had been previously convicted of child abuse and domestic battery. He said she is struggling with emotional pain.

“From what I know, the mother did the best she could in the situation,” Accius said. “She lost a 1-year-old. Don’t blame the victim.”
He should not have been alone with the children so yes mom should be blamed. Last time I checked google works.

So did she leave him her banking access, car keys, stocks, bonds? Why oh WHY would you leave an unknown male person alone with the two most important little bits in your life. It’s your only job is to keep them safe! Don’t invite men you don’t know to your home! A 40$ background check would be your best bargain!

A man convicted of killing a young child and abusing another in Yolo County was sentenced to 15 years and eight months in prison on charges of voluntary manslaughter and assault.
Derrick Dimone Woods, now 47, was accused of physically abusing the children — a 16-month-old girl and her 3-year-old brother — over several hours in February 2021, after their mother left them in Woods’ care at a West Sacramento motel, according to the Yolo County District Attorney’s Office.
Woods as part of his plea admitted he caused great bodily injury to the child who survived “and used a weapon to do so,” the District Attorney’s Office said in a news release.

“These were brutal and heinous crimes against vulnerable children, by a very disturbed man,” Yolo County District Attorney Jeff Reisig said in a prepared statement. “No amount of prison time will ever be enough in this case. We are heartbroken for the family.”

He’s right no amount of prison time would be enough, but 15 lousy years, of which he’ll probably serve less than half, doesn’t touch the surface.

And what’s the fucking mom out doing “pulling a date” if this loser is her so called boyfriend? Or is that hood talk for turning a trick and he was her pimp?
