A Bradford County woman was arrested on manslaughter and child neglect charges last Friday after deputies say she harmed her twin babies.

According to court documents, on Jan. 22, 2024, Ronnesha Flowers told deputies she fell asleep while breastfeeding one of her infant children. When she awoke, the child wasn’t breathing and blood was coming from his mouth.
The infant was pronounced dead at UF Health Shands Pediatric Hospital. The medical examiner determined the baby died of asphyxiation or smothering.

Deputies noted that her home was in disarray. The plumbing wasn’t functioning and the toilets were filled with feces. Countless insects were observed throughout the house.
One month later, emergency crews were again called out to Flowers' home on a report that the surviving twin wasn’t breathing and was bleeding from her nose.

The baby’s father told deputies Flowers fell asleep with the baby in her arms and rolled on top of her.

Flowers made statements suggesting self-harm and was placed under a mental health hold.
The other children in the home were unharmed and taken in by their grandmother.

Flowers was arrested in January 2025 on charges of aggravated manslaughter of a child for the death of the first baby and child neglect with great bodily harm for the injuries to the second baby.

Very sad. two innocent babes in one family dead from fowl co-sleeping! So preventable! I just don’t understand how you could roll on a baby and not immediately wake up?
