A Florida couple is facing child abuse charges after the victim was accused of lying about a couch cushion.
According to authorities, 42-year-old Lance Rachel beat a boy for nearly half an hour because the boy lied about a displaced cushion.
Osceola County sheriff's investigators began looking into the alleged child abuse on December 11 after the Department of Children and Families and law enforcement were notified, the sheriff's office said in a news release.
Investigators who looked at footage captured on the suspect's home surveillance cameras determined that Rachel "maliciously punished the child."
Rachel is accused of screaming obscenities and beating the victim over 28 minutes.
Authorities allege the boy was struck over 50 times with a belt, choked and called several disparaging names and other obscenities.
At one point, Rachel threatened to break the boy's jaw, the sheriff’s office wrote in the news release.
Rachel confirmed to investigators that the boy was abused when they questioned him on Monday.
The suspect's wife, Kimberly Rachel, was arrested for failure to report the known child abuse.
