Security cameras inside the Genesee County Jail captured an inmate assaulting a comfort dog as the animal made her rounds visiting with inmates and workers last week.
Video showed the 13-month-old dog, Josie, walking around a room where inmates were lying down and appeared to be reading on Sept. 24. When she walked up to Romello Maxwell, 27, he punched the small dog in the head, knocking her down.

Josie suffered a concussion and had a scrape on her eye. She spent 1 ½ days in an emergency vet for the injuries because there were fears that she may have suffered a brain bleed. Josie is OK now.

"It broke my heart when I watched this video," Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton said. "We charged as harshly as possible under Michigan law."

Maxwell, who is in jail for assault, has been charged with killing or torturing animals. If convicted, he could face up to eight years in prison.

Why is she being exposed to the scum of the world.

Why is this violent thug even allowed to be comforted by a dog?

So we are now going to coddle violent criminals - maybe we should start bringing in babies for them to beat and women they can sexually assault:banghead:

Can't watch the video. I hope they never ever bring Josie back there, fuck the violent criminals. @Sugar Cookie is right, this coddling BS we do here needs to STOP. How about take her to a hospital to visit with sick people, especially kids and the elderly, they would appreciate that sweet little girl most. I mean look at that face!! How could anyone hurt her?! I just want to mush her little cheeks!!

I really hope that angry inmate knocked him around a bit.
Why are there comfort animals around any and every inmate?! I don't think they should be around ANY, but to just let a sweet little fur baby walk around any ol' criminal with no one around supervising seems insane!
There are so many ill children or elderly people that could have that time instead. When I was young and in the hospital frequently, all the children LOVED when animals came around. Children who were fighting for their lives, lethargic and weak, would jump up with smiles on their faces. Why not do that with these animals instead??

They should throw the whole stack at him! State and Federal Statutes all sections! Thats a violent criminal, you can’t fix him! Don’t subject a sweet innocent Dog to that! I couldn’t watch the video, I will just take your word for it!

Absolutely! Shouldn't have had the comfort of a blanket.
That trustee should've nailed him with that broom.

Now the comfort dog needs a comfort dog.
