According to a criminal complaint, 39-year-old Daisy Zantjer put eyedrops in her husband’s drink on two separate occasions in July of 2023. The Pleasantville Police Department said it was first made aware of the alleged poisoning when the victim reported it to them.
Eyedrops contain a chemical called tetrahydrozoline, which if consumed can cause heart rhythm abnormalities, a dangerously slow heart rate, low blood pressure, and breathing problems that can turn life-threatening, according to Poison Control.

On Tuesday Zantjer was arrested and booked into the Marion County Jail on two counts of administering harmful substances and two counts of domestic abuse assault – injury or mental illness first offense. Zantjer remains behind bars on a $12,000 cash/surety bond.
