A British man is on trial on accusations he threw a boy off a nearly 100-foot-high cliff so he could continue to sexually abuse the child's underage sister, according to her court testimony.
Anthony Stocks, 54, is charged with attempted murder, sexual assault and rape of a girl under 13.

The boy survived the alleged attack that took place in 2022, per the BBC.
Stocks was allegedly “grooming” the young girl, a prosecutor said in court, per This is Oxfordshire and GB News. Once her brother learned about the alleged abuse, he tried to intervene, This is Oxfordshire reported, citing the girl's testimony.

Stocks allegedly told his mental health support worker that one day he would marry the young girl, the prosecutor claimed, per GB News.
The girl testified she was afraid of Stocks and had told her brother about the alleged sex abuse, and the brother planned to address the issue with Stocks, This Is Oxfordshire reported. Stocks allegedly told the girl about his plans to harm her brother, she testified.

On Sep. 24, 2022, weeks after the girl says Stocks first thought of the plan to harm her brother, Stocks allegedly took the boy to a cliff in Brighton.

A witness said they saw a “small shape” drop off the side of a cliff before hearing a shriek, per GB News.

A man who attempted to murder a child who had intervened to stop him raping and sexually assaulting another child has today (26/7) been sentenced after he was convicted of a number of offences including attempted murder and rape.
Anthony Stocks, aged 54, was found guilty by unanimous jury verdict of four counts of sexual assault of a child under 13 and one count each of causing or inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity, rape and attempted murder in a trial at Oxford Crown Court, which concluded on 6 June 2024.

Returning to the same court for sentencing, Stocks was sentenced to life in prison, serving a minimum of 19 and half years.

A joint investigation between Thames Valley Police and Sussex Police found that Stocks had calculated a plan to kill a young boy who had tried to stop him from his offending against a young girl.

I think it's illogical and stupid to consider attempted murder a lesser crime than actual murder when the victim only survived out of pure luck or the perpetrator's incompetence. It's not like this boy is alive because this asshole had a change of heart, he had the exact same mens rea that he would have had if the boy died. He presents exactly the same danger to society he would if he had been successful because his intent was exactly the same, he just knows for the future that this manner of murder might not work so well.
