The victim’s mother reported noticing her son acting differently after a visit to Alley Bardfield’s house. As a result, she checked her son’s phone and social media. In a follow-up discussion with her son, he disclosed having had a sexual encounter with Bardfield while a guest at her Mt. Zion residence on March 29.
On Wednesday, officers with the Mt. Zion Police Department and deputies from the Macon County Sheriff’s Office conducted a joint investigation which included a thorough review of text messages, social media, and a search warrant executed at the suspect’s residence.

As a result of this investigation, corroborating evidence was discovered and probable cause was established to arrest Bardfield for predatory criminal sexual assault of a child under 13 years of age and grooming.
Decatur Public Schools says Bardfield is no longer employed with DPS.

We're told none of the alleged conduct occurred at a DPS school.

A former substitute teacher for Decatur Public Schools, Alley Bardfield, has been sentenced to 10 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections after pleading guilty to charges of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child.

Court records indicate that Bardfield and the minor exchanged numerous text messages after the child's overnight stay at Bardfield's Mt. Zion home on March 29.

The police statement reveals that the two also exchanged messages and inappropriate photos on various apps, and Bardfield sent the minor hundreds of dollars via Cash App over several months.
Initially accused of grooming, Bardfield admitted in a police interview to having sexual relations with the 11-year-old on one occasion, claiming the child made sexual advances toward her that night.
The court found that a sentence of probation would deprecate the seriousness of Bardfield's conduct. In addition to the prison sentence, Bardfield will be subject to a three years to life period of mandatory supervised release and must register as a sex offender for life. Bardfield was given credit for time previously served in custody and is recommended for mental health treatment while in the Department of Corrections.
