A 6-month-old baby is fighting for life Friday night after investigators say a babysitter abused them inside a home.

Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office arrested Joseph Anthony Brooks, 27, Friday for beating his girlfriend’s child while in his care at a home in Charlotte County.

When the child’s aunt picked up the baby from Brooks’ car, she says the child was pale, lifeless and barely breathing.

Detectives say Brooks responded with shock and confusion when he found out the baby had bleeding around the brain. Investigators were at the home for several hours with crime scene tape up.

Investigators say Brooks was watching his girlfriend’s 6-month-old baby, something he’d been doing for several weeks.

Brooks called the baby’s mother to tell her the child was unresponsive and not breathing. But after the baby was rushed to this hospital, doctors discovered bruises on the child’s face, ribs and bleeding around the brain.

Not only are doctors describing the baby’s injuries as child abuse, they say the injuries are consistent with shaken baby syndrome.

The baby is now at St. Petersburg at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital. There is no update to the status of the baby currently.

In a previous charge in May, Brooks was found guilty for battery.

With all the publicity all these babies are getting in the past few years, why would ANY woman want her dick to babysit her helpless infant????? Unless she hated babies, especially her own.

Joseph Anthony Brooks, 29, was adjudicated guilty and sentenced to 10 years in prison for the charge of aggravated child neglect, followed by five years of probation. He was also sentenced to five years in prison for one count of child abuse, to be served concurrently. He was found guilty in August following a trial in Charlotte County.

On Feb. 20, 2020, Brooks was babysitting a 6-month-old child. While in his care, the child stopped breathing. Instead of calling 911, the defendant called the child’s mother. She called her nearby sister, who rushed the child to the hospital. Doctors discovered the baby had recent abusive head trauma. Brooks had been watching the child numerous times for a couple of months.
