The suspect in the death of a 4-year-old at a truck stop Wednesday morning has been identified as 24-year-old Emma Staton, the Fountain Police Department said on Thursday.

Police said Staton is the mother of the deceased child, who has been identified as Acelynn Staton-Contreras.

Lt. Scott Gilbertsen with Fountain police said in a release that police contacted a woman on arrival and performed CPR on the unconscious girl who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said Staton was arrested and charged with Child Abuse Resulting in Death and Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance, both felonies, as well as Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

The Fountain police chief told Gazette news partner KKTV that fentanyl is involved in the case, but the department said that the official cause and manner of the child's death will come from the El Paso County Coroner's Office.

Not clear if the mother is from the city of Fountain? Colorado Springs seems to have an above average rate of certain kinds of violence.

Fountain has 3,810 times the maximum suggested amount of Perfluorooctanoic acid in their water and there is a chance that has some behavioral effects.

PFOAs and PFOSs are going to be very expensive to deal with so the government has been postponing any solution, and is likely to do something.....never.

The mother of four-year-old Acelynn Staton-Contreras has been sentenced to 27 years in prison followed by 5 years of parole for child abuse resulting in death and several other charges.

"I'm hoping that that sets a precedent in our community that, first of all, (fentanyl) is not okay," said Ryan Sauter, a Fountain police detective that investigated the case. "Secondly, it needs to stay away from our kids."
According to the Fountain Police Department (FPD), 24-year-old Emma Staton was sentenced to 27 years on July 3. In April, she pleaded guilty to Child Abuse Resulting in Death, Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
Court records show the child was likely overdosing on fentanyl for hours before Staton sought medical help at the truck stop. Sauter said Acelynn ate a fentanyl pill that was sitting on the bathroom windowsill at Staton's home.

"She never thought her daughter would get into them, and that now has changed tons of people's lives," Sauter said.
