Lazavian Gibbs, 22
Jones County, Mississippi
"There wasn’t hard proof that a convict smuggled drugs into the jail, but there was strong, “non-circumcisional” evidence.
A package of 5 grams of illegal substances was located in 22-year-old Lazavian Gibbs’ foreskin after he was rushed to the hospital suffering from an overdose, according to testimony in Jones County Circuit Court on Thursday."
Gibbs was arrested Feb 7th.
Three days later, while in jail, he overdosed
"After being revived at the jail, Gibbs was transported to South Central Regional Medical Center, and when medical personnel catheterized him, that’s when authorities were tipped off to how the drugs must have been smuggled into the jail.
“He said he took 12 pills,” Brogan said. “The total package was 5 grams.”
"Gibbs had to have smuggled the drugs into the jail, Brogan testified, because he had been incarcerated “for a couple of days” before the overdose.
When the judge asked where the drugs were discovered, Brogan said, “They were located in the foreskin of his penis.”
Judge Dal Williamson let out a long sigh and Public Defender Matt Sherman quickly said, “No questions.”"
"Some court officials tried unsuccessfully to stifle their laughter, as did a few in the audience — including Gibbs’ brother — as the defendant dropped his head into his hands."
"Gibbs was ordered to serve five years in the full-time custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections — time that had been suspended from a 2018 burglary conviction — for violating the terms of his release."
