Three people, including two children, are facing murder charges after a three-year-old girl was beaten to death.

The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office said they responded to a medical assistance call on Feb. 12, and found an unresponsive three-year-old girl. The child was taken to a hospital in critical condition with a brain bleed, as well as bruises and abrasions to the face and body consistent with blunt force trauma.
The toddler died from her injuries on Wednesday, Feb. 14, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies learned that eight juveniles, ranging in age from 11 months to 12 years, were left unattended in the home for several hours on Monday.

Terica Scott, who is an acquaintance of the three-year-old’s mom, was at the home when deputies arrived, and told them she had just left the casino. She was issued a summons for desertion.
A 10-year-old boy and a 12-year-old boy — Scott’s son and nephew who were left unattended with the other children — were later identified as suspects. They were both arrested on Friday, Feb. 16, and booked into the EBR Juvenile Detention Center for simple battery and second-degree murder.

Scott said she knew of the suspects’ violent behavior.

Dineshia Yates

Law enforcement officers were knocking on doors in the area when Terica Scott and Dineshia Yates—Blessing's mother—pulled up with their hazard lights on. The women told deputies they had just left the casino.
Emergency responders found Blessing Buckles unresponsive and not breathing. She was resuscitated and taken to a hospital where she died Wednesday, Feb. 14. Doctors told law enforcement that Blessing had a brain bleed as well as bruises and abrasions to the face and body that were consistent with blunt force trauma.
Deputies said that another four-year-old girl who was left alone in the house had the same injuries. Detectives determined that the 10-year-old boy and the 12-year-old boy beat both of the girls
Arrest paperwork said Yates and Scott left eight children, with ages from 11-months-old to 12-years-old, home alone while they were gambling. During an interview after Blessing's death, Yates told officers that her and her children were staying with Scott for two weeks before the death happened.
Both of the women said they knew about the abuse from the other children but did nothing to stop it. Arrest documents said the women saw bruises on at least one of the girls and they knew about the violent behavior in the home. Still, the women would leave the children unsupervised.
The two juveniles were taken into custody, charged with simple battery and second degree murder and booked into the EBR Juvenile Detention facility. Scott and Yates were arrested for principal to battery and principal to second-degree murder.

According to parish records, Yates has been arrested multiple times for theft. In 2015, she was arrested for stealing $74 worth of items, including baby formula and toothbrushes, from a Winn-Dixie. Store managers told law enforcement she frequently stole from the store.

In 2017, Yates was arrested for stealing twice. Arrest documents said she stole $20 worth of clothes from a Walmart. Later that year, she broke into a home and stole an iPad, two guns and business checks. Officers said she went to a Speedy Cash store and tried to cash a check worth $2,980 to herself before employees called law enforcement.

In 2020, a person called law enforcement after Yates threw a brick into their windshield. Arrest paperwork said the person was driving along Airline Highway when Yates pulled out in front of them, stopped her car, grabbed a brick and smashed the drivers-side windshield.

Yates was arrested again the same year and booked for driving on a suspended license, resisting an officer, aggravated escape and theft.
Scott was previously arrested for second-degree murder in 2021 and arson in 2022. She never went to trial for the murder charge, as the grand jury opted not to formally charge her.

What did these two do breed just to create monster and victims.

A three-year-old girl was beaten to death by two boys after her evil mother had left eight children home alone to go gambling.
Blessing Buckles and seven other children, aged between 11 months and 12 years, were left unattended when her mum Dineshia Yates and her friend Terica Scott went to a casino. Blessing was allegedly attacked by the boys; Scott's 10-year-old son and her 12-year-old nephew and suffered a bleed to the brain.

Yates, 27, has pleaded guilty to manslaughter and cruelty to juveniles. The mum, who has a history of theft, was jailed on Thursday for just 18 months. Scott denies the same charges and is expected to attend court on May 5. The two boys have been charged with one count each of battery and second-degree murder.

Poor Blessing....

In April 2025, Dineshia Denise Yates was sentenced for her role in the February 2024 beating death of her 3-year-old daughter, Blessing Buckles

Yates was sentenced to 15 years in prison for manslaughter, with all but 18 months suspended.

She also received 18 months for a cruelty to juveniles charge, which runs concurrently with the manslaughter sentence.

Following her 18-month incarceration, she must serve two years of probation.

Yates entered a "best-interest" guilty plea (Alford plea), which allowed her to accept the conviction without formally admitting guilt.

She also pleaded guilty to unrelated theft charges involving an incident at a casino where she allegedly robbed a man she met while gambling.

In July 2025, Terica Denise Scott, 28, was sentenced to five years of probation for her role in the 2024 death of 3-year-old Blessing Buckles.

Scott pleaded guilty to downgraded charges of negligent homicide and cruelty to a juvenile.

District Judge Collette Greggs initially imposed a 15-year prison sentence (5 years for negligent homicide and 10 years for cruelty) but suspended the entire term in favor of probation.

As part of her 5-year probation, Scott was ordered to pay a $2,500 fine, undergo a substance abuse evaluation, and complete parenting classes.

The records of the juveniles who killed Blessing are not publlic
