"A teenager found a human skull on a stick along the Cedar River Greenbelt Trail south of Mitchell [Iowa] , in July 2021.

Officials said in a news release that Nathan James Gilmore was arrested and charged with first-degree murder for the death of Angela Bradbury.

Court documents allege that Gilmore and Bradbury had a chance meeting at the Cerro Gordo Courthouse in April 2021, when Bradbury was arrested for trespassing at a car dealership and Gilmore had been at the courthouse for a hearing. Following her release from jail, Bradbury went to a friend’s house to change her clothes. Detectives said she then left with a man and was never seen again.

Meanwhile, Bradbury's family contacted law enforcement to report Bradbury as missing in Feb. 2022, saying they had not seen her since April 2021

The criminal complaint, detectives said that Gilmore had sent texts referencing the skull found in the park while threatening a male associate of an ex-girlfriend.

When investigators served a search warrant at Gilmore’s home, they found a drawing on a whiteboard in the living room depicting a satanic goat’s head in the shape of a pentagram “with what appeared to be blood spatters drawn on it.” Numbers significant to the case were also written on the board, including the GPS coordinates of where the skull was found."

Thank you! I’ve recently purchased a walking stick (I’m under 50 but have a neuromuscular disorder that makes me walk like an octogenarian and I think a walking stick looks “cooler” than your standard cane)…if I mount a skull atop my stick will I get more street cred and not be made fun of for being so gimpy? Now I just need to find a skull…

Or you could start dressing like a pimp, everyone would immediately assume your gimpy walk was a very specific pimp swagger. You’ll need a hat, a gold tooth and a bright suit.

No can do; that would require me changing out of my pajamas, which I rarely do. Maybe if I got crushed velvet jammies? Like some tacky Juicy Couture track suit? As long as it has a stretchy waistband, I’m in.

This story blows my mind. Imagine being a teenager just minding your own business on a nice hiking trail when you see a damn head on a stick. I guess maybe it helps that it was a skull; it's probably easy to think, "Oh, someone left a Halloween skeleton prop out here to scare people." An actual severed head would be a lot more disturbing.

One of my BFFs is a post-conviction sex offender polygrapher in Des Moines and I'm wondering if it will be discovered that Nathan Gilmore raped people along the way and thus will eventually end up in her polygraph chair. She's seen some sick fucks in her line of work, but even she was shocked by this head-on-a-stick wackiness. (When talking about the sex offenders with me, she never uses the term "client" or anything like that--it's always "scumbag." She'll be like, "You wouldn't believe what today's scumbag did.") I would enjoy hearing whatever she had to say if this scumbag Gilmore ended up in her chair!

Wow, what a tough job! I imagine it must get to her

Months after pleading guilty to murder, an Osage, Iowa, man found to have drawn a “satanic goat’s head in the shape of a pentagram” on a whiteboard after stabbing a woman he just met in the neck was sentenced Monday to 50 years in prison.
Nathan James Gilmore, now 24, admittedly and brutally murdered 29-year-old Angela Nicole Bradbury and placed her head on a stick at Greenbelt River Trail Park in Mitchell County on April 6, 2021.
Originally charged with first-degree murder, Gilmore decided to plead guilty to second-degree murder back on Aug. 17, more than two years after Bradbury’s skull was found. On Monday, Gilmore was sentenced to five decades behind bars, court records reviewed by Law&Crime show. He must serve at least 35 of those years in prison before he becomes eligible for parole, according to local ABC affiliate KAAL-TV.
Shockingly, according to that report, Gilmore said before his sentencing date in court that he felt nothing at all about the murder, which came “easy” to him and wasn’t even the “worst thing” he’s done in life.
“I met someone, I stabbed her in the neck, and went back to work,” the admitted killer reportedly said in a presentence investigation. “I never even knew her name until she was reported missing. I don’t really feel anything about it, it was easy and not the worst thing I’ve ever done.”

They need to remember what he said and keep him in prison for the entire 50 years.

Angela Nicole Bradbury

Angela was born on April 7, 1992, in Mason City, IA. She enjoyed growing up on the farm in Nora Springs and graduated from Central Springs High School in Manly in 2010. Angela had a special place in her heart for animals, especially her beloved Chihuahua, Batman. She was always kind to the “underdogs” among us and those who knew her were blessed by her hugs, beautiful smile and special little giggle. She will be sadly missed by many family and friends.
