The Nevada, Iowa, Public Safety Department announced two arrests related to the death of a 7-month old child.

Authorities requested arrests warrants for 35-year-old Juan Montalvo Jr. and 23-year-old Sheyenne Shore on Monday.

Montalvo Jr. and Shore are currently in custody in California for unrelated charges.

According to a department press release, they will be returned to Iowa to face first-degree murder and child endangerment charges.

"Sheyenne acknowledged that [the child] had hit her head on baby toys while doing tummy time but denied any other knowledge of how [the child] received other injuries," a criminal complaint says.

The state medical examiner determined the child had facial contusions and skeletal fractures among other injuries, those which "were consistent with non-accidental head injuries," court documents state.

Um…7 months is a little old for “tummy time” dumb shit. Baby should be sitting up by then. Heck some are even crawling. Even if we pretend she actually was, how the hell would she hit her head on a toy when she’s on the floor on her Tummy, dummy.

A Nevada man accused of killing his seven-month-old baby has been sentenced to prison for child endangerment while the mother awaits trial.
Juan A. Montalvo Jr., 36, and Sheyenne N. Shore, 25 are the parents of a 7-month-old infant who died in June 2023 in Nevada. They each were originally charged in September 2023 with first-degree murder and child endangerment causing death.

On Tuesday, Montalvo Jr. pleaded guilty to an amended count of child endangerment resulting in serious injury. He requested immediate sentencing and was sentenced to an "indeterminate" prison term not to exceed 10 years.
Montalvo is still being charged with first-degree murder, according to court documents. His bond is set at $1 million.

Shore pled not guilty to first-degree murder and child endangerment resulting in serious injury in November 2023. A non-jury trial has been scheduled for Sept. 16, 2025.

26-year-old Sheyenne Shore of Nevada was found guilty of first-degree murder and child endangerment resulting in death by intentional act on Thursday, April 2.
The verdict came just over a year after the child's father, Juan Angel Montalvo Jr., pleaded guilty to child endangerment resulting in serious injury. He received a 10-year sentence and a fine.

Both were initially charged with first-degree murder and child endangerment resulting in death.
On June 11, 2023, Nevada Public Safety was notified of the child's death after life-saving measures failed at the Story County Medical Center.

A criminal complaint states, "Sheyenne acknowledged that [the child] had hit her head on baby toys while doing tummy time but denied any other knowledge of how [the child] received other injuries."

Afterward, the state medical examiner found that the child had facial contusions and skeletal fractures among other injuries, those which "were consistent with non-accidental head injuries," court documents state.
