No Justice: Parents Charged With Murder in Death of Baby Boy With Skull Fracture, Broken Ribs

The parents of a 3-month-old baby boy who died after sustaining serious injuries were charged on Tuesday with three counts each of first-degree murder.

Logan Hutchings and Sophia Kelly, both 21 years old were arrested by the Illinois State Police (ISP) Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) following an investigation initiated on June 12, 2022.

The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) and the Pinckneyville Police Department had requested the ISP DCI to investigate the infant's injuries after the baby was admitted to a hospital in St. Louis and was discovered to have a skull fracture, along with multiple rib fractures.

The infant was pronounced dead on June 14, 2022, as a result of these injuries, police said.

On the day that a judge acquitted an Illinois father of murdering his infant son, prosecutors filed to dismiss related charges against the mother.

Logan Hutchings, 22, was found not guilty in a Perry County courtroom. His co-defendant, Sophia Kelly, 22, was scheduled for a jury trial to start May 1.

Prosecutors and the parents’ respective attorneys did not immediately respond to Law&Crime for comment.

They probably cannot really determine who hurt the baby and they are refusing to testify against each other- which means they both were probably abusing that baby.
