Kimberlynn Bolanos told police that she killed her 5-month-old son to prevent police from taking him away because she smoked crack, prosecutors said.

Bolanos, 21, appeared in Cook County Criminal Court on Friday on charges she murdered Isaac Bolanos. She is charged with stabbing the boy to death in a Lincoln Square motel on May 30.

Assistant State's Attorney Bridget O'Brien said Isaac suffered 21 stab wounds in his head and eight in his chest, and his throat was slashed from ear to ear.

Kimberlynn Bolanos, 21, is facing a first-degree murder charge after she brutally stabbed her 5-month-old son Issac to death.​

Bolanos is currently in jail held with no bond after police had to break down a hotel bathroom door with an axe to get to her and the infant she murdered.

She had been staying at a hotel with Issac. Her boyfriend, also allegedly the father of the child, had visited them off and on during their stay, reports CBS Chicago.

Bolanos and her unidentified boyfriend proceeded to smoke crack, marijuana and drink rum one night.

The next morning, Bolanos disappeared into the bathroom with the baby for a shower. When the boyfriend finally managed to break down part of the door over a half hour later, he saw Bolanos and the baby covered in blood on the floor.

A young mother was sentenced to 38 years in prison Wednesday after she pleaded guilty but mentally ill in the stabbing death of her 5-month-old son.

"To say this case is chilling is an understatement," Cook County Judge Charles Burns said.

Burns noted that Kimberlynn Bolanos has suffered from bipolar and obsessive compulsive disorders and has substance abuse problems.

The judge said he believed what happened on May 30, 2013, was an isolated incident and urged the 24-year-old to better her life while she is behind bars.
