was discovered in the overgrown grass behind the home, with his large stuffed bear just a few feet away.

Six dogs - two female terrier-boxer mixes, a male pit bull and three terrier-boxer mixed puppies - were also found in the same backyard and seized by Animal Control.

Authorities have said they do not know how many - or which - of the dogs attacked the boy but say it is likely Javon was playing with the puppies when an older dog attacked[...]
It is likely that at least one of the older dogs became protective over the litter[...]
They will now be testing the dogs' DNA to determine which were responsible for the attack, and they are continuing to investigate how the boy got in to the backyard.

Wednesday, as the boy's tiny body lay beneath a sheet on the grass, his grandmother, Jocelyn Dade was seen wailing outside the home - barely able to stand.

The boy's father, Javon Dade, Sr., who had been at home at the time with his girlfriend, also appeared in the street, inconsolable.

That's terrier as in pit bull terrier, not rat terrier or Yorkshire terrier. Pit bulls are illegal in Miami/Dade. Animal Control and the Miami Herald would like to have this changed. So they really, really try not to call a pit bull a pit bull, especially when they murder a child.
Such a horrible way to die. Peace, child.

Poor little fella, I bet he so wanted to play with those cute little puppies and the adult dogs saw this small child whom they were not used to seeing regularly as a threat.

You really should keep adult Mom dogs separate from other adult dogs when she has her litter anyway as she will become even more on high alert, its stressful and can cause fighting and attacks like this.

Any dog packs are dangerous if the situation arises , especially ones as powerful as a Pit.

I feel terrible for his family, especially his poor Mother. I do feel bad for the father but he has to take a portion of the blame on this one due to the dogs being kept illegally and he had been warned - breeding them is even more stupid- and the fact he was lacking in supervisory duties when he knew he had those dogs and pups around.

I'm not going toplay the "blame the breed" game, nope. Simple I will say: Why the fuck would you have a fucking pack of dogs that mean when you have children in the house? All the little one did was go out in the backyard, thta's it, and for that he's dead.

Last night I was at my Aunt's house and a Rottie came running over to me, sweetest little girl, she was still a pup. I ended up losing a shirt sleeve to her in a rousing game of tug-of-war, not mean mind you, I was playing with her and using my shirt as a tug-of-war toy. She was strong. A pit would be roughly the same size that she was, she tore my shirt up playing, those dogs did it out of aggression, I can't imagine.:(
