Marquita Burch, 26, is being held on charges of Abuse of a Corpse and Tampering with Evidence in connection with the death of William Cunningham. According to Cincinnati Police, Burch admitted to investigators in Covington that William died at her apartment on Sheehan Ave. in Hartwell and she later moved his body to an apartment on Winton Rd in Winton Place. Police officers found the boy’s body in a closet early Saturday morning.

Burch reported William Cunningham missing Friday night around 6 p.m. Burch told Local 12 News in an interview that William was her nephew. She said she arrived at the City Heights Housing Complex and went into an apartment to get some clothes. When she returned she claimed William was gone.

"He was at the park with the kids. I got out the car, we came down the side panel right here and I watched him go toward the kids. I just went upstairs to get some clothes, when I came back it was kids everywhere. There was kids going in the woods, there was kids at park over there getting wet, kids at the basketball court when I came back out I told the kids to go get him because we was about to leave and the little boy said he saw him walk over that way," Burch said.

William Cunningham’s mother, Kiara Carter, was distraught Saturday. She says Burch was babysitting William and she asked Burch several times to return the boy over the last several days and each time Burch promised to return him but did not.

Aunt accused of abusing toddler's corpse after one-year-old is found dead in closet while in her care
A one-year-old boy who was reported missing in Covington, Kentucky, on Friday was discovered murdered in Cincinnati, and police say they have arrested the victim's aunt.

According to authorities, 26-year-old Marquita Burch has been charged with abuse of a corpse and tampering with evidence in connection with the William Cunningham's death.

Burch reported her nephew missing, but was questioned by police after finding discrepancies in her story. The woman later recanted her story, telling Covington detectives that little William had an accident and died in her apartment on Sheehan Avenue in Cincinnati,

The suspect then directed Covington detectives to an apartment on Winton Road where she said she had taken the boy’s body.

The toddler’s corpse was discovered in a hall closet within the unit. Police have not revealed how the child died.

Cunningham was reported missing on Friday night. Detectives interviewed the boy’s mother, Kiara Carter, and Burch, who told Local 12 News she was babysitting him and left the boy playing outside in the City Heights neighborhood while she went into her apartment to retrieve some clothing.

When she came back, the boy was gone. A massive search followed involving some 100 officers, firefighters and other emergency responders, as well as K-9 units that spent five hours scouring the surrounding area, the Enquirer has reported.

Lieutenant Colonel Spike Jones, of the Covington Police Department, said police eventually determined the child was not in the area when the dogs failed to pick up a scent. He said he believes the boy was never in Covington, and Burch made the story up to throw off police.

Carter said Burch was baby-sitting William, and she asked her several times to return the boy home, but the 26-year-old would not do it.

Discussions with family members led Covington police to believe the child was in Cincinnati, and the investigation was turned over to Cincinnati police.

The child was murdered , but Burch is only being charged with abuse of a corpse and tampering with evidence . Maybe there is an abusive penis in the picture .

yeah, no shit. Really bizarre.
I'd be busting down a door like as soon as I got off the phone. Maybe it is coming off that way by the media, don't know why she wouldn't just run on over but might be a reason for that.

>>>REALLY GOOD VIDEO. Tells that baby William was killed by blunt force trauma to the head, how exactly is not yet known. A LOT of family speaking on baby and mom speaks and is clearly devastated. My heart goes out to the family.
Hamilton County Dr. Lakshmi Sammarco said Saturday an autopsy of William Cunningham revealed trauma to his head. Dr. Sammarco also said due to decomposition of the boy’s body, it would be difficult to determine the exact time of death but she believed he had been dead for at least 48 hours. Cincinnati Police detectives continued to interview people in the case. More charges will likely be filed.

Rest in peace baby William Cunningham.

William Cunningham
CINCINNATI - After a second vigil for 1-year-old William Cunningham in two days, his family is now vowing to follow the case of his babysitter through its run in court. They say they want to get answers as to what led to the baby's death as well as getting justice for the child and his family.

More than 100 family members, friends and neighbors showed up in Winton Terrace Sunday night to hold a candlelight vigil for the child. They also asked for the group to start giving what they could to a fund being set up to pay for the 1-year-old's funeral. Arrangements were still pending Sunday night.

After lighting dozens of candles and saying a prayer, the baby's mother, Kiara Carter, sobbed and then bent over in tears as she coped with his death.

"He was a wonderful baby. So many of you will never get to know the joy he brought. This baby never deserved what happened to him," Carter said.

A great grandmother and her husband drove up from their Tennessee home on Sunday to help their relatives deal with Cunningham's unexpected death.

"It's been a real tragedy. It was my great grandchild. My third great grandchild. All we want to do is find some justice and some peace with the situation," she said.

Babysitter claims ibuprofen, fall led to 1-year-old's death

CINCINNATI - New details emerged at an arraignment hearing Monday morning for the babysitter charged in connection with the death of a 1-year-old boy.

Marquita Burch, 27, faced a judge at the Hamilton County Justice Center after police found the body of the boy she was babysitting, 1-year-old William Cunningham, in a Winton Road apartment Saturday morning. Burch originally told Covington police on Friday that the baby was missing. She later changed her story, directing police to a the Cincinnati apartment, where they found the boy's body in a hallway closet.

Burch was charged with abuse of a corpse and tampering with evidence after the discovery of the body.

Derek Gustafson, Burch's attorney, said the boy suffered an accidental injury after falling down steps. Burch gave the boy ibuprofen and put him to bed and the following morning Cunningham was found dead according to Gustafson.

"Even if that were the truth, there were still some things that happened following William's demise that were very inappropriate and very inhumane and still have to be dealt with," said Vanessa Sparks, Cunningham's great aunt. "When you are put in a position of trust and someone trusts you with your children, you know what to do in a case of emergency. So things should have been handled a lot differently than what they were and this should have never happened."

A Tri-State babysitter who set off a frantic search for a 1-year-old boy entered a not guilty plea in court Thursday.

Marquita Burch, 27, was arraigned Thursday and entered a not guilty plea to one count of gross abuse of a corpse and one count of tampering with evidence.

In May, Burch told police that 1-year-old William Cunningham wandered away from a Covington apartment complex causing a massive search for him.

The next day his body was found in the closet of a Winton Road apartment in Cincinnati.

The coroner ruled he had suffered head trauma and brain injury. The coroner also said the child had been dead for at least 48 hours.

Burch changed her story to say the child died in her apartment in Hartwell. Her attorney, Derek Gustafson also said the little boy fell down some stairs.

Burch gave the boy ibuprofen and put him to bed and the following morning Cunningham was found dead, according to Gustafson.

Burch is being held on a $500,000 bond at the Hamilton County Justice Center.

Her preliminary hearing has been set for June 26 at 8:45 a.m.

Shouldn't there be some sort of murder or manslaughter charge along with the abuse of a corpse? If the child suffered a fall that was severe enough to cause his death then it would seem that it would be serious enough to have taken hin to the hospital.

I hope that they are still investigating because this whole thing sounds very "off" to me.

A baby sitter initially charged with murder in the death of a 1-year-old boy whose body was hidden in an Ohio home pleaded guilty to lesser charges and has been sentenced to 19 ½ years in prison.

A prosecutor's spokeswoman says 27-year-old Marquita Burch, of Covington, Ky., pleaded guilty Thursday in Cincinnati to involuntary manslaughter, child endangering and gross abuse of a corpse in William Cunningham's death last May.

Authorities said Burch didn't seek medical treatment after the boy suffered a head injury. They say she reported him missing from a Covington, Ky., playground but later said she put him to bed after he fell and found him dead the next day.

Police found the body in a Cincinnati home a few days later.
