Fed Up With Her Kids, Mom Tosses Them From The 15th Floor

A 30-year-old mother in Moscow tossed her two young children off a 15th-floor balcony Sunday because she was reportedly "fed up" with the two boys, according to Russian media.

Galina Ryabkova, who is seen on surveillance video shortly after the incident, appeared emotionless after going to look at the remains of her sons, ages 4 and 7, according to RT news.

The video - posted by the tabloid LifeNews.ru - begins with one of the children landing just out of frame at the bottom of a short flight of steps outside the building. A man is then seen coming out to discover the gory scene.

Ryabkova also comes downstairs, the video shows. Wearing a white t-shirt and jeans, she sits in the lobby as neighbors attempt to keep the bony blonde from walking away.

“My wife woke me up and said that there were children falling out," a neighbor told Life News, according to the RT. "We ran out and saw two children lying on the ground in front of the main door. Just at that time their mother was leaving the building. We asked her if these were her children and she replied, emotionlessly, ‘Yes, I threw them away.’â€￾

A law enforcement source told RIA Novosti that during the questioning, the woman was behaving oddly but calmly, saying that no one needs her. She said her children - two boys aged four and seven - were now "angels in heaven.â€￾

Russian media suggested the reason for the murder was probably that the woman, who has been detained, had suspected her husband of cheating on her.

The family lived in a two-room apartment on the eighth floor. Ryabkova got to the 15th floor and threw her younger son, then her elder son from a balcony, according to investigators.

A source said the woman’s husband was away on business.

Markin said Ryabkova had earlier tried to commit suicide. She will be made to undergo a psychiatric examination.

“The family moved to Moscow from Volgograd a few years ago and had generally positive characteristics. However, the suspect planned to divorce her husband soon,â€￾ he said.

“She had made a suicide attempt before her wedding,â€￾ Markin said.

The family's eighth-floor apartment — the woman had climbed seven stories higher to toss the children — was discovered to be messy, disorderly and had exposed wiring.

Ryabkova will undergo a psychiatric examination and could face up to life in prison on murder charges.

My first thought is about how scared they must have been once they realized what was going to happen. It breaks my heart. One brother had to see his sibling being tossed to the ground, I can't even begin to tell you... I mean... they were just kids!

My second thought is how horrific it would be to to be one of the neighbors who found the boys. I would never be the same. Ever.

This woman doesn't seem to connect with reality. Stating that she threw them away without any kind of emotion scares the Hell out of me. When people lose the abliity to empathize they are capable of so much horror. There is no conscience. There is no filter. I do think she is mentally ill, and if they are able to get her on medication will she be able to fully grasp what she did to her own children?

This story hurts my heart to no end. I have been "fed up" more times than I can count. Never once has it occurred to me to harm one of my kids. I usually threaten to sell them to the gypsy's (because my mother, like her mother, used to threaten me with it) It's a joke around here because they all know I would never sell them to gypsy's. Usually when I am "fed up" I lock myself in my room or leave the house (if Mike is home) If I'm here by myself the babies end up in their chairs with snacks & cartoons while I sneak my ass either outside or downstairs to have a cigarette and deflate. It's like a mommy time out. Been there done that lol. I know all about trailer park living and it is a hell of a lot better than being homeless! I would like to point out that most of the folks I would call "trailer trash" don't even live in trailers. It's really the demeanor, not the domicile that earns one the title.


Funny trailer-ish story: About 25 years ago I took my kids to see a 4th of July fireworks display in the small town of Annandale, MN. As part of the festivities, they held the "Miss Annandale" pageant before the display. There was the obligatory Q&A session with each finalist.

My sister and I just about peed ourselves as one question was posed. The emcee actually said "Kristi lives in the the XYZ mobile home park. Tell us, Kristi, what's it like living in a trailer?". I don't recall her answer as we were to busy trying to keep the WTF off our faces and not be too loud in our guffaws. She didn't win. Good thing, too. Who wants to be queen of the idiots?

Some reports suggest she was taking the bath with them too. But the short circuit cut the power, and it is then the police say she decided to throw her sons off the balcony.
She invited them to fly paper planes and they went upstairs to a shared balcony on the 15th floor. Witnesses say after throwing her children she attempted to jump too. But apparently she changed her mind and went down the staircase....

Some people recall however she never beat her children or shouted at them.

Some of her neighbors say she desperately wanted her children to go to a kindergarten and wanted to work there to secure a place for them, as the nursery school was full – and this could have triggered the tragedy. Kindergarten authorities argue they granted her kids a place but she refused.
Psychiatrists believe the woman must have been in deep depression.
“Her actions resemble that of a so-called “extended suicide” when a person in depression first kills their children and then kills themselves,” an employee of a Scientific Center for Social and Forensic Psychiatry said.

He also explained the fear of adults is the main cause of violence against children. And only qualified psychiatric aid can prevent a tragedy.

“A weak person attacks only those who are weaker – that’s the law of nature,” he added. “The main problem is a lack of a defense mechanism: children have little rights against their parents.”

Meanwhile, reports suggest Ryabkova's husband Sergey nearly collapsed when he learnt what had happened. Since the incident he has not talked to his wife.

Watch it again. They were not skipping to their deaths. The video appears to be the view from the front enterence going in. If you look at the time stamp the picture of the boys leaving and then returning with their mother it was recorded the day before she killed them. Notice how she is dressed differently that day in blue with a ball cap. Then it cuts and we see her coming out in different clothing (the white tee-shirt) right after she threw them off the balcony. The date changes on this video to the next day. We see her talk to her neighbor and he runs outside to check and pulls out his phone (I'm assuming to call the authorities/ambulance) and then he goes back in where the mother is sitting there waiting.

The Moscow Regional Court has sentenced a local woman who pushed her two sons from the balcony to compulsory medical treatment, RAPSI reports from the court on Monday.

According to the investigators, Galina Ryabkova lured her two sons, one aged four and the other seven, onto the common balcony of the fifteenth floor of their apartment building and pushed them over the handrail. The boys died.

The court ruled that Ryabkova is guilty of murder committed in a state of mental derangement. According to a forensic psychiatric examination, Ryabkova has a mental disorder and was not aware of what she was doing.

The court ruled that she cannot be called to criminal responsibility and sent her to a mental hospital. The prosecutor said after the hearing that Ryabkova was sorry for her actions.

Ryabkova's spouse told journalists in court that she deserved a more severe punishment. "I don't believe she is mentally ill. She should not be sent to a hospital; she deserves a more severe punishment," he said.
