A swing can be knocked over. It does not protect the child at all. A child could become entangled in the restraints. Who the hell WOULD leave a child unattended in a baby swing. Much less with the family dog.

Swings have been recalled over the years.

The swing can't get knocked over if there isn't anything or anyone around to knock it over. A 2 month old baby isn't going to knock it over itself.

All different kinds of baby equipment, furniture, toys, etc have been recalled. Cribs, bassinets, jumpers, walkers...parents still use them right?

Because people who have pets and treat them as part of the family forget they ARE still animals. You cannot predict what an animal might do to a baby, cannot, don't care how many times people say oh, but my dog is the sweetest, most loving, smartest, etc.....OK sure, but your loving dog is still an animal with animal instincts.
Could have been how the baby stirred, cried or being that the animal was new to the home felt the baby was getting too much attention, who knows....stupid, stupid, stupid to leave a baby unattended around an animal. People freak when a human loses their shit on a child, but an animal, oh, no how the fuck? it's an animal. not a babysitter. There are human's I wouldn't leave in the care of my baby much less leaving my animal alone with them.

Rest in peace baby Aiden McGrew. (omg Aiden was so precious).

moms myspace.

I see some pit bull in that dog. This makes perfect sense now.

A Dorchester County man has been charged with unlawful neglect of a child after his 2-month-old son was dismembered and killed by the family dog while the father slept in a nearby room.

A warrant was served Wednesday on Quintin Harold McGrew, 28, of Ridgeville.
[...]

According to an affidavit accompanying the arrest warrant, McGrew put the child “at unreasonable risk by placing the infant in the living room by himself while the defendant slept in the bedroom. The infant was left in the separate room with a dog that was new to the residence for over an hour resulting in the disembowelment and death of the minor child.â€￾

A conviction on the charge carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.

McGrew's wife, Chantel McGrew, said on Wednesday that she supports her husband "100%" and that the loss of their son has been "extremely" hard on them.

"Having to go to work and then go home to an empty house, it's very, very upsetting," Chantel McGrew said. "When you wake up at 2 o'clock in the morning wondering where your baby is at, because the baby will wake up at 2 o'clock in the morning for his feeding and he's not there. All you can do is visit his grave site. It's really hard."

DHEC officials also reported on Wednesday that the dog that attacked Aiden has been put down.

The attack happened at the McGrew's mobile home on Sandpit Drive on April 20. The baby's mother told investigators that 2-month-old Aiden McGrew was apparently pulled from his swing and had his leg torn off by a golden retriever labrador mix.

The Dorchester County Coroner's Office listed parental neglect as one of the causes for the 2-month-old's death. Coroner Chris Nisbet listed the cause of death as exsanguination, due to transection of blood vessels, due to animal eating, due to parental neglect.

He listed the manner of death as homicide.

Nisbet said that the baby was in a high chair when the child was attacked by the dog in the single-wide trailer home. However, during a frantic 911 call, McGrew's mother described the seat as a swing. According to Nisbet, two adults, three children, two dogs and several chickens lived inside the home.

christ, it must have been a right shit-tip! Who the fuck has chickens in their home?

Maybe I've had one too many cheap chocolate bunnies but this makes no sense . If the child died at the hospital after the attack how can autopsy show he was possibly dead before the dog dismembered him ? How many lives does this kid have ?

Because you aren't officially dead until a doctor or coroner declares you dead. If that happens at the hospital, you are declared to have died at the hospital even if you were dead before.

It's a country thing. My aunt and uncle always had their (bantam) chickens in their house. Heck, even my grandparents in Germany had their prize rooster in their public bar which was inside their house. The rooster usually sat on top of the Wurlitzer jukebox and drank the beers their customers would buy him.

My mom let chickens in our home from time to time, along with dogs and cats. We lived in a singlewide shithole trailer.

omg. omg.
I'm glad there is some responsibility to answer for.
Seems incredibly unlikely he wouldn't hear a damn thing. Chickens can run, baby Aiden didn't have a chance at all. Just makes me sick.

I hate these people

Quintin McGrew didn’t know that he would land in jail after his baby boy’s dog mauling death, until sheriff’s detectives called to tell him they had a warrant.

“I was devastated,” 28-year-old McGrew said at his home Tuesday. His wife, 23-year-old Chantel, sat beside him and vowed to remain there throughout the court proceedings to come.
The couple’s 2-month-old son, Aiden, died April 20, when a foster dog dragged him from a swing and chewed off his legs in the living room of the family’s mobile home. Dorchester County Coroner Chris Nisbet ruled that parental neglect played a role in Aiden’s death and ruled the case a homicide by “animal eating.”
“Our names are slandered,” Quintin McGrew said. “We really can’t go anywhere. I can’t go to the grocery store now.”

Chantel had been out at an appointment with her stepdaughter at the time of the attack. Quintin, who runs a home computer repair business, had been asleep.
Dorchester County sheriff’s investigators arrested Quintin on a charge of unlawful conduct toward a child.

“I’m here 100 percent, no matter what happens,” Chantel said. “I’m not going to go anywhere else. That’s my best friend. I’m sure not going to lose him.”

She stayed, got the kids back and more dogs.

Wonder if he even got a slap on the wrist.

I am merely pointing out that with Pit Bulls being the EVIL BREED in the media, that a lot of people aren't thinking about how other breeds could cause the death of a child.
Maybe the media needs to stop attacking certain breeds, and start educating people as to the dangers of owning any dog.
My family and I adopted a blue terrier mix not too long ago. For the 1st couple of weeks I made sure the dog couldn't access my youngest without going through me. She was purchased from a SC shelter. They wouldn't even let me view dogs without a profile on file. When I came to see my choices, they said 3 of 4 weren't available to people with children
They also made sure that the dog was compatible with my 6 yr old. We never saw the dogs we wanted to see. They showed us animals the thought we needed based on an assessment
