Mom Jonaida Nieves-Perez Charged With 2ND Degree Child Cruelty In 2m/os Death

A Columbus mother has been charged with one count of second-degree cruelty to children in connection with the death of her 2-month-old son.

Jonaida Nieves-Perez, 20, was arrested after Columbus Police launched an investigation into the March 31 death of her son, 2-month old Emanuel Kadene Thomas.

Police reports say that an ambulance responded to a Plateau Drive home about 6:30 a.m. because Thomas wasn't breathing. The child was taken to The Medical Center and pronounced dead just after 7 a.m.

The mother of two then became the center of the investigation by Columbus detectives but there are still a lot of unanswered question. The suspect's sister and mother both say there is no way Perez would have let this happen.

Liznaida Perez says, "She take care of her kids very good, and I don't think she would try to harm her baby."

COLUMBUS, GA - It was at a home in a neighborhood off Plateau Drive that 20-year-old Jonaida Nieves-Perez called authorities to, when her two-month-old son stopped breathing on March 31st. But now, two weeks later, she is facing charges.

Police say Perez turned herself into authorities on Tuesday. She is now charged with second degree cruelty to children.

Officials say an investigation into the infant's death revealed Perez was allegedly criminally negligent in supervising her child. And they say that negligence allegedly resulted in the child's death.

However Perez's friends say she was a loving mother, who cared about her son and would never intentionally hurt him.

The baby was pronounced dead at the Medical Center less than an hour after EMS responded to the home.

The Coroner's Office says autopsy and toxicology results in the case are still pending.

Perez currently lives in Phenix City, and it is unclear why she was at the Columbus mobile home at the time. She pleaded not guilty in Recorder's Court on Wednesday and received a $5,000 bond. Her case is now bound over to superior court.

Yeah I spent considerable time last night trying to dig up more information on this one and there simply isn't any.
I couldn't even get a hint of a picture from the comments (there were some people saying they knew her and know she
would never harm her children but no hint of what it is she is accused of doing) I guess we will have to wait on this one.
I'm sure the information will come out sooner or later. Though the meth theory is a good one.

That reminded me of a story kinda funny, kinda sad b/c shows my moms alzheimers advancing

I had to go to a friends and grab stuff few weeks ago
and she has a really nice Jesus picture framed on her table given to her at funeral home by someone when her dad died
And its just a head shot of his face and long flowing hair

Nobody assumed anything. We were simply talking about possible and likely scenerio's since the article is very tight lipped on exactly what happened. We all admit over and over again we don't know what actually happened and a few of us even went as far as to try to find the information. I know for damn sure when/if somebody found the true info it would be posted here for all to see and set the record straight. In the meantime we were having a discussion of what could have happened.

Now I think it's funny you come in lecturing us about jumping to conclusions when you yourself didn't bother to actually read the post and see that we were discussing possibilities and not actually stating those ideas as factual. So essentially you are doing exactly what you are bitching about us doing. That makes you a hypocrite.

Oh and I will make fun of whatever I want. I could read her poor excuse for English just fine. If she didn't want her business seen by the public then maybe she shouldn't have it posted on a social networking site. I happen to know facebook gives you the option to make your shit private. Hi RoseC! Thank you so much for coming here and letting us know what happened to the beautiful baby. We had no idea - obviously. Which really makes me wonder - If I did know Herm, her education etc, then I'd be able to make fun of her language? And if the language is foreign to me b/c I'm not supposed to be reading it... wow! So if I become her FB friend will she teach me that language so we can communicate? It's only foreign b/c I don't know her? My brother and I got to be close friends for a while and he was willing to teach me Klingon at that point. We've drifted apart since then. You can type in clear, nearly perfect English so maybe you're not that close with her either. Unless you only talk like that with your own kind? So confusing. I wasn't snooping. Her FB is public. Were you snooping when you googled this story and ended up here? Same thing. It's a public page. Big difference though, our language is perfectly clear and we're more than willing to explain what we're saying. We were trying to figure out what happened to the precious baby and had virtually no information to go on. Do you think you could provide more information? Was she not home when the baby suffocated? Was she passed out drunk? Why the neglect charge? Babies suffocate all the time totally by accident. Not all parents are charged in their death. Thanks again so much for any information :girl:
