My nieces, nephew and little sister all go to the same high school. The same high school that Cuc Thu Tran's son goes to. Cuc Thu Tran was a jogger and usually parked her car at a local church as she ran. She was abducted, raped, stabbed to death and the stolen van she was in was set on fire. The article doesn't say she was raped but that what I was heard so who knows if that happened. Regardless her death was a shame. The church was less than 5 minutes from the house I just sold and moved away from. My mother, sisters and their families still live near here with in walking distance. Crime happens everywhere but it's particularly disturbing when it pops that "it couldn't happen here" bubble you live in. Her high school son Truong Tran, 17 just graduated this year with a 6.07 GPA. She would be so proud...

The murderer was arrested in the county just southwest of me. Less than an hour's drive. Carrabelle used to be a fishing/oyster village until the Florida Legislature passed the net ban. As many people there are unemployed, this would have been the perfect place for him to hide. Glad they caught his ass.

Eleven of 12 jurors quickly recommended the death penalty for Kenneth Ray Jackson, who raped and murdered a 50-year-old Seffner mother of three in 2007.

Jackson wasn't immediately sentenced by Hillsborough Circuit Judge William Fuente, but under the law the judge must give "great weight" to their recommendation. They deliberated for about 90 minutes. Their vote for death was anonymous.

Jackson, 30, showed no reaction.

A week ago, the jury convicted him of the 2007 rape and murder of Cuc Thu Tran, whom Jackson attacked as she jogged past the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church near her mobile home before dawn. He raped and fatally stabbed her there, then drove her body in a stolen van to Gibsonton, where he set the van on fire.

Hillsborough County Judge Christopher Sabella re-sentences Kenneth Ray Jackson to life in prison without parole. Jackson, 36, was sentenced to death on June 5, 2013 for the September 13, 2007 raping and killing of 50-year-old Cuc Thu Tran. The Florida Supreme Court overturned that death sentence in 2017 because the jury’s 11-1 vote wasn’t unanimous, which is now required by law.
