A one million dollar bail is set for the murder of a 15-month old child.

21-year-old George Autman faces three counts of murder for the death of his son.

The Autman family attended today's hearing at the McLean County courthouse this afternoon.

Prosecutors say the child's mother was at work while Autman was taking care of their two children. He initially told authorities the child was walking with a sandwich in his mouth when he fell and choked.

But an autopsy revealed the child died from head trauma and multiple bruises were found on his body according to the Peoria County Coroner.

Investigators interviewed Autman's three-year-old daughter who said "Dad gave him a whooping because he was naughty."

Police say Autman later admitted spanking the child because he was hitting his sister.

This afternoon when a judge set bail at one million dollars the suspect's family gasped in disbelief.

His parents, brothers and others rushed out of the courtroom crying.

Emergency responders were called to the boy's home at 12:25 p.m. Tuesday. The boy was taken to BroMenn Regional Medical Center in Normal and then transferred to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center where he died that night in surgery.

George Autman will spend 45 years in prison for beating his 15-month-old son to death in 2008. His relatives and the woman that cared for the baby during the first year of his life asked for forgiveness, but the judged ordered the maximum sentence allowed. Prosecutors say medical evidence showed that Antwan Liddell was hit, kicked and stomped on before dying. Autman's attorneys argued that the injuries were from discipline that went wrong.
