It fucking AMAZES me that the Doctors and Nurses MISSED it with the first trip to the Emergency Department.....

The best remedy for a screaming fussy newborn is to pick it up, either breastfeed it or place a warmed bottle in its hungry mouth, burp the baby so he doesn't puke all over the place, and love the baby....what's so fucking hard about that?
My second son, the adorable blondie with deep chocolate brown eyes, was the fussiest, colicky, grumpy, high need/high maintenance, marathon nurser that God ever put on this planet....(I'm serious here, for once)....Ryan Cade challenged every bit of Mothering Sainthood that I had, and then some...there was never a time that I ever wanted to harm him because he was being difficult....there were days that I cried right along with him, but I never hurt him....He's my child, a part of me, my heart beating outside of my body....
I hate to say this because I realize the overwhelming job that Social Services has in monitoring at risk parents, but this young woman CLEARLY wasn't up to the demands of motherhood when she had this little miracle!! HEEELLLOOOO....she voluntarily gave up her 3 and 1 year old people!!!....:argh:
Frequent home visits should have been made. The primary care physician could have required mom to present the baby to clinic on a weekly or bi-weekly basis for weight checks, feeding assessments... Also, home health care could have been ordered to do Home Evaluation Assessments and complete an at home bonding assessment...
There are many many many tools that Health Care providers, Social Workers, and Law Enforcement can utilize when dealing with parents such as this....I feel confident in stating that when assessing parents in the home environment we (health care workers) often deflect negative events from happening due to the fact that the parents are fully aware that they are being watched and being directly held accountable for the care of their child....it's probably saved many a little one!!
The system, as faulty as it may be, does work adequately when put into place...when it isn't, well, babies die and we're left standing here scratching our heads wondering WTF.....
