A family of five, including three children, was found fatally shot in their Culpeper, Virginia, home in what appears to be a murder-suicide.

The bodies of Clarence and Shauna Washington, both 35, and their three daughters -- 4-year-old Olivia, 6-year-old Onya and 13-year-old Omesha -- were found inside their home Sunday night.

Family and friends told authorities that the couple had been having an ongoing domestic dispute that apparently grew more heated Saturday night. Authorities never received any calls for help from the home.

The bodies of the Washingtons were found Sunday night after relatives became concerned when they hadn't heard from them in awhile. The family did not attend church on Sunday as usual, although someone did speak with them around 5:20 p.m.

When Shauna Washington's mother and a cousin went to the home at 14458 Rixeyville Road on Sunday night, they found it locked up and forced their way in through a window. Inside, they found the bodies of the family and called authorities around 10 p.m.

Another one of Shauna Washington's cousins, Nicole Minor-Melvin, said that Shauna was more like a sister to her, and described her as an incredibly involved and loving mother who headed up two Girl Scout troops at the Daisy and Cadet levels.

[...]

Minor-Melvin said Shauna Washington had wanted out of her marriage, but Clarence didn't. She said she'd never imagined something like this would happen.

Shauna's family members said her husband had owned four guns, and the couple had growing difficulties, but added that Clarence Washington was not a bad person, and was a good provider.

Shauna Washington was born and raised in Culpeper. For 12 years, she worked as a certified nursing assistant at Culpeper Health and Rehab before transitioning into home health care, all while taking classes online. Monday would have been her first day selling insurance at AFLAC.

Shauna's family members said Clarence had no criminal history, but they have no doubt he is responsible for the crime.

The sheriff said a gun was recovered at the scene.

CULPEPER, Va. (AP) — A family of five, including three children, was found shot to death inside their home in a quiet area of north-central Virginia, and police would not say Monday whether they're seeking a suspect in the case.

A family member discovered the bodies of the two adults, both 35, and three school-aged children Sunday night, according to the Culpeper County Sheriff's Office

Looks like it's a murder/suicide:

Police say a family of five, including 3 children, has been found shot to death at a home in Virginia in an apparent murder-suicide.
Detective Angela Deavers with the Culpeper County Sheriff's Office said the victims were two adults, both 35 years old, and three children. Deavers said a family member discovered the bodies at the home in Culpeper, a town of about 15,000 people 70 miles southwest of Washington.

The case is being investigated as a murder-suicide, Deavers said.

Deavers said she did not have many details about the victims, but two of the children killed were elementary school-aged and the third was middle school-aged

She also found their three children, four-year-old Olivia, six-year-old Oniya and 13-year-old Omesha, dead inside.

Culpeper deputies believe Clarence killed his wife and his three children before taking his own life at their home. The medical examiner confirms Clarence shot himself in the head. Also confirmed, his wife and their three daughters were murdered and died from gunshot wounds to the head.

Clarence and Shauna's bodies were found in the master bedroom, while the girls' bodies were found in their bedrooms. Police noted several spent shell casings nearby. A handgun was also found a gun lying on Clarence's chest. The list of evidence taken from the home is about three pages long. It includes a .380 high point pistol, a .22 rifle, eight cartridge cases from the various bedrooms, five more from an outdoor mulch pile, "green plant material" from the master bedroom and cell phones.

Authorities say family and friends said the couple had been experiencing marital issues and Clarence had recently threatened Shauna with a firearm

another ass- backwards selfish asshole . . . How could any parent do this. Like to think about it and then ACTUALLY following through with it. . . . Another world of Fuct if you ask me. . . . . smh. . . How sad for the Grandma to find her daughter and granddaughters like that. . . .

The Mother and her beautiful Daughters look and sound like a lovely little happy family unit.

Damn these controlling selfish men who will take the lives of their ex/partners/wives and children rather than let them be or make their own decisions regarding their lives. Evil cruel bastard.

I hate they way they word media articles, like they say men 'snapped' or it happened after ' the wife wanted a divorce ' etc, it still plays on the wrong sympathy and tries to justify a reasonable excuse for something that is totally the fault of the perp due to his mind set.

No normal person snaps and annihilates their loved ones for simple reasons. Yes, the end of relationships are hard, but most people divorce and separate, they don't go and get their gun and make that the deciding factor. Who made him chief executioner? His own selfish mind, that's who.

These are not one off occasions - he would have displayed controlling behaviour before, that's probably why this poor woman was hoping to end this relationship. These cases make me so angry. That photo of those girls together just radiates love and now that is so very sad.

I hate they way they word media articles

I hate the media, period. I quit watching main-stream news right around Hurricane Katrina when they decided to show the same stock footage 24/7.

Now, I don't believe it unless I've read it on a couple of sites that are not US based.

The mother and daughters are beautiful! If he wasn't dead, I would love to assist him in arriving at his final destination.

I love how they say he was a 'good man' because he 'provided' for his family. That's what he is supposed to do when he asks this woman to marry him and make a home and family with! I agree with @paintedred that he surely displayed this behavior and Mom likely stayed as long as she could because of her family/ friends / community encouraging her to stay with the 'good man' and 'provider'.

I KEEP wondering how a person can feel justified in taking another's lif when one person cannot make a life, therefore one person should not take a life. A life should only be taken when another life is at risk....not your ego, car or even home; (Although there are always some exceptions) this should be the general rule of preservation of life!
