David Neal Cox, 50, was put to death at the Mississippi State Penitentiary at Parchman after filing court papers calling himself “worthy of death” and ditching all appeals.

Cox, in 2012, pleaded guilty to fatally shooting of his estranged wife Kim Kirk Cox in May 2010.

He also pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting his then-12-year-old stepdaughter in front of her dying mother.

The stepdaughter, now 23, witnessed Cox’s execution.
“I want my children to know that I love them very much and that I was a good man at one time,” Cox said just before the injection started. “Don’t ever read anything but the King James Bible.”

He also thanked the state corrections commissioner, Burl Cain, for “being very kind to me” before adding “that’s all I got to say.”

Cox was the first Mississippi inmate executed in nine years.

Apparently, he was only on death row for nine years. That's quick by today's standards.

"By 4:45 p.m., Cain told media he and two other department of corrections officials and three chaplains shared Cox's last meal with him, including coleslaw, hush puppies, banana pudding, French fries and fried catfish."

After a meal like that, I would be begging to be put out of my misery.

But wait, there's more!

Mississippi man executed for slaying admits to second murder before death

A Mississippi man who was executed for shooting dead his estranged wife admitted just before he died to also killing his sister-in-law, authorities revealed on Monday.

David Neal Cox, 50, told his attorneys he killed his sister-in-law Felicia Cox in 2007 and provided details on where her remains could be found before he was executed on Nov. 17 over the 2010 slaying of his wife.

District Attorney John Weddle said at a news conference on Monday that Cox had been a longtime suspect in his sister-in-law’s disappearance.

Weddle would not disclose the exact location Cox provided but said investigators were preparing to search in Pontotoc County where Felicia was last seen.

The Mississippi inmate who admitted to killing his sister-in-law just before his execution also left behind a map for investigators — leading to the discovery of human remains, prosecutors said.

The likely remains of Felicia Cox, who disappeared in 2007, were found Sunday in Pontotoc County using a map drawn by her brother-in-law, David Neal Cox.

The 50-year-old man told his attorneys he killed her before he was executed on Nov. 17 for killing his estranged wife in 2010.

This guy is an absolute fucking monster. From the transcripts (link to full case below):

“Cox had shot Kim twice, once in the arm and once in the abdomen, between 7:00 p.m. and 7:10 p.m. During the ordeal, Cox communicated with hostage negotiators, Kim's father and stepmother, and members of Cox's family. The last confirmation that Kim was still alive was at 12:45 a.m. on May 15. While Kim lay dying, Cox sexually assaulted L.K. in Kim's presence on three separate occasions.”

“Cox told (the hostage negotiator) that he had shot Kim in the stomach. Chavers encouraged Cox to release Kim for medical treatment. Unmoved, Cox said that he wanted to watch Kim die. Chavers testified that he repeatedly pleaded with Cox to release Kim. Cox replied, “since you're so interested in her ․ I want you to hear her beg before she dies.” Kim also spoke with Chavers, pleading for her life. Chavers and Cox had several conversations in which Cox repeatedly said that he would not release Kim, because he wanted her to die.”

Plus, what started everything is when the stepdaughter told her mom that he had raped her (back when the couple was still together). Mom went to the cops, this guy was jailed, and the entire time he sat in jail he stewed about how he wanted to make her hurt and pay for getting him locked up.

ETA that Felicia was his SISTER, not sister-in-law, at least from the source I’ve read. That makes it worse for me for whatever reason.
